Carol Horton writes about yoga from the unique perspective of a social scientist who is also a longtime yoga practitioner and certified yoga teacher. A former political science professor, Carol holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and served on the faculty at Macalester College. She is also a Certified Forrest Yoga Teacher and volunteers with Yoga for Recovery, teaching yoga to women in Chicago's Cook County Jail.

Her most recent book, "21st Century Yoga: Culture, Politics, and Practice," is a co-edited collection of essays exploring yoga's relevance to contemporary social issues including body image, eating disorders, addiction recovery, political activism, and body-positive spirituality. She is also the author of "Yoga Ph.D.: Integrating the Life of the Mind and the Wisdom of the Body," which will be published in October 2012. This book explores the nature of contemporary yoga - where it came from, how it works, and why it has become so popular - from her own unique perspective as a political science professor-turned-yoga teacher.
