About the film

It tracks eight different individuals, all with various fates and desires. Meanwhile the metaphor of „eight bottles“ appears throughout the film. This film describes my journey and experience with the locals and the life they lead. At the beginning of the film, I arrive via an Arabic bus from east Jerusalem to Al Amari in Ramallah to visit its refugees.

Then, you see the individuals through a more authentic perspective. I gave several people the opportunity to express their feelings and record their own personal perspectives; I lend them a video camera for a day. Through this process you see a mosaic of eight different people, and you can see the world through their eyes. At the same time as they record the day, they get the opportunity to write down their wishes (that they want to tell the world) into a notebook that I lent them with the camera. After their recorded they, they give me back the notebook with the camera, each of them. Despite the fact that each character is different, they all have something in common. At the end of the film, I leave the camp with the notebook cover with writings from each of those people... For now I cannot say more without the risk of revealing too much.

The film has a few levels. Firstly, you experience the atmosphere and my sojourn in the location with me (through me view as a director and cameraman), while at the same time, you will get personal insight from real refugees at Al Amari. Yet the film focuses on a central theme as well. “Eight Bottles” explores the idea of being imprisoned in a vacuum and the lack of freedom of choice and self-determination. Each of as is predetermine by certain situation. The way how we put up with it is different.
