Much of Mars' surface is covered by fine-grained materials that hide the bedrock, but elsewhere,
such as in this scene, the bedrock is well exposed (except where covered by sand dunes).

he map is projected here at a scale of 25 centimeters per pixel. [The original image scale is 26.7
centimeters per pixel (with 1 x 1 binning); objects on the order of 80 centimeter across are resolved.] North is up.

Adam Synergy: A new paper on Chariklo's Rings appeared on the astro ph arXiv just yesterday:

[1702.06356] Simulating the Smallest Ring World of Chariklo
    https://arxiv.org/abs/1702.06356

Their N-body simulations suggest that rings might typically occur on timescales of only
about 100 years, which is considerably shorter than the timescales suggested in previous studies.

NASA’s New Horizons, IAU Set Pluto Naming Themes
    https://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-s-new-horizons-iau-set-pluto-naming-themes

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) – the internationally recognized authority for naming celestial bodies and their
surface features – has approved themes submitted by NASA’s New Horizons team for naming surface features on Pluto and its moons.

Working with the New Horizons team, the IAU has agreed to naming themes (listed below) for Pluto, its largest moon, Charon, and
its four smaller moons—Styx, Nix, Kerberos, and Hydra. Some of these themes build on the connection between the Roman god Pluto
and the mythology of the underworld. Other themes celebrate the human spirit of exploration.

    Pluto

Gods, goddesses and other beings associated with the underworld from mythology, folklore and literature
Names for the underworld and for underworld locales from mythology, folklore and literature
Heroes and other explorers of the underworld
Scientists and engineers associated with Pluto and the Kuiper Belt
    Pioneering space missions and spacecraft
Historic pioneers who crossed new horizons in the exploration of the Earth, sea and sky

    Charon

Destinations and milestones of fictional space and other exploration
Fictional and mythological vessels of space and other exploration
Fictional and mythological voyagers, travelers and explorers
Authors and artists associated with space exploration, especially Pluto and the Kuiper Belt

Themes for Pluto’s smaller moons are:

    Styx: River gods
    Nix: Deities of the night
Kerberos: Dogs from literature, mythology and history
    Hydra: Legendary serpents and dragons

    The TRAPPIST-1 Habitable Zone
    Catalog Page for PIA21424
    http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA21424

The TRAPPIST-1 system contains a total of seven planets, all around the size of Earth. Three of them -- TRAPPIST-1e, f and g -- dwell in their star's so-called "habitable zone."
The habitable zone, or Goldilocks zone, is a band around every star (shown here in green) where astronomers have calculated that temperatures are just right -- not too hot, not
too cold -- for liquid water to pool on the surface of an Earth-like world.

While TRAPPIST-1b, c and d are too close to be in the system's likely habitable zone, and TRAPPIST-1h is too far away, the planets' discoverers say more optimistic scenarios could
allow any or all of the planets to harbor liquid water. In particular, the strikingly small orbits of these worlds make it likely that most, if not all of them, perpetually show
the same face to their star, the way our moon always shows the same face to the Earth. This would result in an extreme range of temperatures from the day to night sides, allowing
for situations not factored into the traditional habitable zone definition. The illustrations shown for the various planets depict a range of possible scenarios of what they could
    look like.

Asteroid 2017 DG16 to flyby Earth at 0.34 LD
    https://watchers.news/2017/02/23/asteroid-2017-dg16-flyby/

A newly discovered asteroid named 2017 DG16 will flyby Earth at a very close distance of 0.34 LD (130 560 km / 81 126 miles) from the surface of our
planet at 21:08 UTC on February 23, 2017. This is the fifth known near-Earth asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since January 8, 2017.

2017 DG16 was first observed by Mt. Lemmon Survey on February 21. The estimated size of this asteroid is between 2 and 8 m (6.5 - 26.2 feet).
It will flyby Earth at a speed (relative to the Earth) of 6.91 km/s. This object belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids, Earth-crossing asteroids that
have an orbital semi-major axis greater than that of the Earth (mt 1 AU) but perihelion distances less than the Earth's aphelion distance (q lt 1.017 AU).

Comparison of the TRAPPIST-1 system with the inner Solar System and the Galilean Moons of Jupiter.

This diagram compares the orbits of the newly-discovered planets around the faint red star TRAPPIST-1 with the Galilean moons of Jupiter
and the inner Solar System. All the planets found around TRAPPIST-1 orbit much closer to their star than Mercury is to the Sun, but as
their star is far fainter, they are exposed to similar levels of irradiation as Venus, Earth and Mars in the Solar System.
