The Art of the Story

Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of entertainment known to man. From fireside descriptions of hunting a wooly mammoth to bards traveling from town to town in the middle ages to the present day mulitude of forms in which it is found, story telling is a valuable and cherished skill. Unfortunately, as other forms of story telling have taken precedence in the world of entertainment, the deceptively complex art of oral story telling has long been in decline. This is unfortunate in that storytelling is a part of nearly every form of communication--simple stories from our lives, sales, presentations, even flirtation all involve in some form the ability to tell stories.
The Art of the Story Part I will be a five week course that focuses on the most basic aspects of storytelling. The focus of each of the five weeks will be:
week 1: Showing yourself when storytelling
week 2: Emotional truth and resonance in story telling
week 3: Relating to Listeners
week 4: Imagination skills for storytellers
week 5: Common mistakes and the dangers of focusing too much on skill development
