Navzdory nepřetržitému pohybu, propojování, výměně a přemíře informací jen zřídkakdy přicházíme do styku s něčím zcela neznámým, odlišným či nečekaným. Ve svém prostředí jsme utvrzováni individualizovaným předvýběrem zpráv, naše pocity a zkušenosti jsou přiživovány a pozice mezi sobě rovnými utužovány. Mezitím nabývá zdůrazňování jinakosti ve vztahu k naší vlastní identitě na důležitosti.
Abychom neztratili půdu pod nohama, prodléváme na známém území a vyhýbáme se situacím, které nedokážeme zařadit, které nás vyvádí z míry nebo vyžadují, abychom učinili krok do neznáma. Situacím, které by nás mohly konfrontovat s námi samými, s naší nejistotou či neschopností. Přestože jsme globálně propojení, ze zřetele ztrácíme „jiné“.
Cílem desátého ročníku Fotograf Festivalu je poskytnout prostor druhému ve smyslu protějšku ve vizuální kultuře a oživit dokumentární funkci média fotografie i pohyblivého obrazu. Nejednoznačnost média fotografie, jež naznačuje blízkost, ve chvíli, kdy podněcuje odcizení, je problematizována stejně jako jeho limity. Pohledy na jiné a perspektivy jiných jsou ustanoveny v reakci na mediálně-specifické, sociální či státní režimy pohledu. Pozvaní umělci a umělkyně ve svých dílech tematizují imaginaci, pozorování a výzkum jiných míst, způsobů žití a forem všednosti. Vybraní autoři a autorky zpochybňují svou vlastní motivaci a zviditelňují možné konflikty, hranice, přiblížení a prostupnost mezi „já“ a „jiným“. Skupinové výstavy představují současná díla společně s pracemi, které vznikly od 80. do 90. let minulého století a zkoumají široké spektrum blízkých i vzdálených úhlů pohledu. Tím dochází k navazování kontaktů a překračování hranic, narušování jistoty a ke konfrontaci s „jiným“.

Fotograf Festival je jediný tematicky a kurátorsky koncipovaný fotografický festival v České republice, jehož cílem je propagace média fotografie, jeho širší začlenění do současného umění a do povědomí široké veřejnosti.
Cílem Fotograf Festivalu je budovat tradici a novou platformu fotografického festivalu, který zařadí Prahu mezi další významná centra fotografie a vizuálního umění v Evropě. Usiluje o přiblížení současného fotografického umění a vytvoření tematicky zaměřeného prostoru pro setkávání širšího publika i odborné veřejnosti z celého světa.

FXF: Uneven ground
Despite constant movement, networking, exchange and an abundance of information, we rarely come into contact with the really unknown, the unexpected. Personalised newsfeeds validate ourselves in our environment, nourish our feelings and experiences, confirm our position among our equals. In the process of globalisation, the elimination of the other in order to stabilize one’s own identity is seemingly becoming ever more important. In order not to lose the ground beneath our feet we stay on familiar territory and avoid any contact with discomforting situations, which throw us off balance or confront us with ourselves (our own insecurities or incapacities). We lose sight of the other in our virtual connectedness.
For that reason, the FF #10 is keen to give space in visual culture to the other in the sense of a counterpart, and to resurrect the function that can be attributed in this way to the documentary-related media of photography and motion picture. The ambivalence of the media, suggesting closeness while generating alienation, is problematised as well as its limits. The view on and the perspectives of others are negotiated in reaction to media-specific, social and state systems’ regime of the gaze.
The invited photographers and filmmakers thematise their imagination, observation or research regarding a specific place, life, or everyday practice. They question their own motivation, and make visible the clash, the boundary, the approximation and permeability between I and the other. In group exhibitions, the festival places contemporary contributions and works from the 1980s to the 1990s in relation to each other and examines the spectrum of various different points of view between proximity and distance, establishing contact and overstepping boundaries, self-confirmation and the confrontation with the other.

Fotograf Festival is the only thematic- and curator-conceived photography festival in the Czech Republic. Its aim is to promote the photographic medium and its broader integration into contemporary art and into the conscience of the general public.
Fotograf Festival looks to build a tradition and a new platform for a photography festival that places Prague among other important centers for photography and the visual arts in Europe. It strives to share contemporary photographic art and the creation of a thematically-focused space where the general public and experts from around the world can meet.
