    "The Urban Speaker is an art installation that transforms public space into an instant stage for mass communication. This portable urban furniture allows people to broadcast their voice in public by calling a telephone number from their mobile phones.

    The Urban Speaker resembles construction signage and blends in with its urban surroundings. It consists of a tripod with an amplified loudspeaker, smartphone, battery and a traffic sign. The signage instructs passersby to dial a phone number to speak in public. Users who place the call get an automatic answer and can speak their mind for sixty seconds after which the call is terminated. A QR (Quick Response) barcode on the sign allows some mobile phones to instantly access the urbanspeaker.mobi website for location, event and other details as well as quick dialing of the installation’s phone.

    The project explores the possibilities of “urban media spaces” created by the introduction of telecommunication and interactive technologies into our built environments. Temporary interventions such as this seek to re-imagine what our personal and social experience of public spaces can be in an age of ubiquitous nonstop communication.

    Urban Speaker will premiere during the Conflux 2010 festival of psycho-geography in New York City. The installation can be viewed on Friday October 8th from 3pm-7pm in Tompkins Square Park, on the 7th St side between Avenues A & B.

    Seskupení NoiseFold využívá například 3D data vizualizaci v reálném čase a programy indukce data zpětné vazby pro audiovizuální modelaci synteticky modelovaných ekotechnologických struktur, vycházejících z genetických procesů živých systémů.

    David Stout a Cory Metcalf jsou v Praze na tvůrčím residenčním pobytu v Institutu intermédií na ČVUT a hosté FAMU.

    David Stout - umělec zabývající se interaktivním videem a zvukem a jeden z nejznámějších performerů v oblasti tzv. live electronic. Je držitelem ceny Harvestworks Interactive Technology Award a Sun Micro Systems Award (2004) Byl navržen na cenu WTN World Technology Award (2003) a cenu International Media Art Prize (2004). Zabývá se elektro-akustickými notacemi pro scénu a obraz, dále tzv. live cinema, video-dance, data-base narrative, noise performance a telematickými video performacemi. které využívají polyekrany jako extenzi performera, publika a prostředí. David žije v Santa Fe, v Novém Mexico a vyučuje na Univerzitě v Texasu.

    Cory Metcalf is a moving image and sound artist who lives in Santa Fe, NM. His work explores the intersection of human performance, real-time media systems and responsive installation environments. His interests range from the field of bio-mimicry to the practices of aerial theater, extended vocal techniques and instrumental noise-music performance. As a seminal member of the interactive performance group, i2O, Metcalf developed dynamic diffusion sound designs for live acoustics and video performance
    instruments. Metcalf's interest in physical computing is evidenced in works such as Sensor Swarm, a hybrid interactive performance-installation that employs sensing technology to blur the distinction between the audience and performance, fore-grounding the normally unconscious influence that humans impose on their environment. Currently Cory is working with real-time 3D simulation and complex data feed-back programs to model synthetic-ecologies based on genetic and behavioral processes found in living systems.
