Many of you will have asked, just who are the Metro Buskers? Could it be they the ones standing in the Carling Corner of your local tube station singing Don’t Worry Be Happy or Stairway To Heaven? Maybe in past times. Though in today’s technology-fuelled musical renaissance our Metro Buskers of the new generation are more likely to be seen with their laptops and midi-interfaces, playing glitches, beats and clicks instead….
In addition to being imagined future-generation street performers, Metro Buskers is the title of Metroline’s first label compilation. A collection of 9 tracks from 9 different artists, all trying to entertain their audience with their music using the wide-reaching internet as their pavement, street corner or tube pitch. The idea for the compilation came about a few months ago when at Metroline HQ we though about releasing material from some of the artists we’ve been meeting at the various parties we’ve been playing in the last year or so. Here’s a track-by-track quick look at what to expect:
First from this list of artists is Ekkohaus who opens Metro Buskers Vol.1 in style with Citron it’s a solid hypnotic-trippy yet solid track. Track 2 is delivered by London based producer J-Lab. Jon’s track Ghostwalking takes us to deeper and housier territories whilst track 3, produced by Italian Maurizio Vitiello is another minimal tech-funk monster (if you have downloaded Metroline 3 you know what we are talking about). Continuing our journey through Metro Buskers Vol.1, track 4 is delivered by one of Metroline head-honchos Octad. Bouncy and shuffly with catchy hooks and clicks Like A Kid In A Candy Store is aimed straight at the dancefloor. Italian based producer Panum from new-label-on-the-block Beatperminute is next on the list of buskers with his techno funk number called Pan whilst another third of Metroline, Phiorio, delivers a deep glitchy yet tough work with his Minimal Brew. Another artist from Italian based label Beatperminute, Phooka delivers track number 7. Phooka’s work is dark, relentless with a deep bassline and doesn’t shy away from the use of bleeps ad cut-up noises. Metroline’s Raw ups the tempo with his Plavix. The Italian-London based producer track is another one for the dancefloor fuelled with synths stabs, noises and gritty percussions. Last but not least (those of you paying attention will have already realised all artists have strictly been listen in alphabetical order) is the dub influenced Bionic Chicken Food by London based talented newcomer, Tony Guinness. Deep, dark and groovy: imagine 5am in a dark warehouse! If that’s your thing, of course. [/img]
