THE DANISH- VIETNAMESE CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND EXCHANGE FUND HAS DECIDED TO ANNUL THE CDEF TALENT PRIZE 2006
Hehe, tak to dopada, kdyz se nekdo chlubi cizim perim ;)
After announcing the winner of the CDEF Talent Prize 2006 in December last year, it has come to the knowledge of the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund that the winning composition and the winner, Pham Tuan Hung, has not respected the rules and the concept of the talent prize competition.
The winning piece “Dem He” is not, as stated initially by Pham Tuan Hung, an original piece composed by him solely neither is it a new piece of work - two decisive preconditions for entering the competition. The experimental version of “Dem He” has been composed by British composer Robin Rimbaud (Scanner) in connection with the project “Street Symphony” arranged by the British Council in Hanoi in 2003.
Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam and chair of the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund, Peter Lysholt Hansen, states:
“The Cultural Development and Exchange Fund can under no circumstances accept or award a winner who has violated the rules and the concept of our talent prize. The idea of this prize is exactly to award and help a young talent promoting his or hers most recent works and to encourage further exploration and artistic development within his or her field. Mr. Pham Tuan Hung has not only violated the rules of the Talent Prize, but has also ignored international copyright regulations. Therefore the CDEF Board had no other choice than to annul the award”
The board of the Cultural Development and Exchange Fund has decided to annul the prize of 2006 completely.
A vyjadreni ze Scannerovy stranky me dostalo :D
Some of the oddest events have occurred too. A fine example of this was the discovery that a Vietnamese pop artist mistakenly used my work to win a coveted award from the Danish Embassy in Hanoi, only for the story to explode in the press there, the telephone ringing at 02.00 a.m with journalists, and downloads and statistics suddenly going wild on the website, such that for over a week scannerdot.com was
receiving around 35,000 visitors a day, downloading on average around 20,000 MP3s! Extraordinary. With a reasonably happy end to the story I'm glad to report that that's now calmed down.
