For our first release of 2009, we're pleased to bring you these lush ambient soundscapes from Boise, Idaho based musician Pat Benolkin (Electric West). This album was previously released in a slightly different form on a now defunct netlabel; however, the version we're presenting here features a rare re-edit of the track 'Interceptor'. As usual, this release is available in free download MP3 (320kbps) and FLAC (lossless) formats.

Anders Ilar - Twilight Rainfalls [2009]



2008 is over and it's truly been a year of contrasts and change, both on a personal level and on the planet at large. For some reason every year my releases tend to cluster together in time even though I plan to spread them out. Both Sworn and Melt was ready to release back in 2007, but was delayed for various reasons and then finally released in the early summer. I would have liked to put out one more ep this year, but my forthcoming 12" Vidare is pushed back to some time next year. The label is from Utrecht and is called Eat This Media Foundation and i'm really looking forward to the release, whenever it may be. ;)
That said, 2008 was a good year as it brought me back to some of my favourite places on Earth, aswell as to some new amazing locations. I performed in Poland, Germany, Lithuania and Estonia in the winter and early spring months and in the summer I went back to Lithuania for a great weekend festival by a beautiful lakeside. And at the same time I got to revisit some dear friends and make some new ones. I'm already looking forward to return to this wonderful location next year.
I was very happy to be invited to play in Japan for the first time in july, and it was really a life-altering experience. I'm so thankful to have been able to see a bit of the countryside and to play at this extraordinary place in the forrest in a valley between the most impressive mountains. The most impressive journey I made tho, was touring in China for a week with Tape and Efterklang. I have no words to describe the experiences. I'm extremely thankful to have been given this chance to see these placesand meet all these wonderful people and spread my music even further than I had ever dreamed of. There is no end to the love.

I really want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the many kind comments and messages you have sent. Alltho I have not responded to each one of you, I really appretiate you sending me your thoughts. It makes me proud and very happy to know that my music has touched you. I believe we are all in for quite a ride in the coming years. Our planet needs a new world order for sure, but we can not surrender to the world banks and their plans for world governance. I've come to some amazing conclusions regarding reality and it's most important to keep a positive focus even in the darkest of times and manifest a loving future for this great lushious planet we all love to walk on. It was truly made for us to love. Remember that while we are innundated with irrelevance from the powers that be.

So my gift to everyone this year is a brand new album!

- Tell about your first musical steps and what led you to minimalism?

Actually I wouldn’t necessarily describe my music or aesthetic as “minimalism”. I am interested in detail and precision and am fascinated by small movements and slow changes (which you could maybe describe with the word “minimalism”). For me the word minimalism always in itself carries some negative aspect, as it also describes an approach of doing as little as needed to create or do something.

I have been interested in music already at a very young age. For hours I have been listening to the radio during the evening while staring at the blinking lights of the equalizer in the stereo. When I was around the age of ten I started to actually buy records (at that time mostly vinyl) and tapes and was always searching for new music and interesting bands. In my search for I have gone through several phases (new wave, industrial, heavy metal, alternative, electronic) and I believe that each of the musical phase has left a small trace or particle in the music I am creating.
