Film written and directed by Jeremy Deller, explores the social history of the UK between 1985 and 1993 through the lens of acid house and rave music. The film is based on a real-life lecture given to a class of students in London.

na podzim jsme vystavovali na velkym umeleckym festivalu v Grazu a byla to dost ruznoroda prehlidka netradicnich prostoru, ale i bilejch kostek a kunsthalle. site-specific akce, kazdej den doprovodnej program... vystavy byly dost radikalni, nejen formou ale i politicky.

This situation in public space happened symbolically on Place De Revolution in Besançon on 50th anniversary of 1968 revolts. Word “grève” is French for “strike”.



“Human strike can be a revolt within a revolt, an unarticulated refusal, an excess of work or the total refusal of any labour, depending on the situation. … But human strike is a pure means, a way to create an immediate present here where there is nothing but waiting, projecting, expecting, hoping…This type of strike that interrupts the total mobilization to which we are all submitted and that allows us to transform ourselves, might be called a human strike, for it is the most general of general strikes and its goal is the transformation of the informal social relations on which domination is founded.”

„Just as the tree of life, standing in the midst of paradise, means regeneration and a return to the original state of perfection, Turner’s tree with sprouting cobblestones instead of fruit represents a symbol of renewal and the desire to establish new, fairer conditions. It is an expression of resistance to the existing power structures and their repressive apparatus, simultaneously expressing disapprovaIot any form of subordination and conformism. Although the tree is located in an almost deserted place, practically hidden from people’s eyes. it paradoxically personifies primarily the voice of the street, as the prime instigator and mover of social change. Thus, if the tree of knowledge is in many traditions associated with the first man and his fall, Turner’s tree can be conceived as a symbol of the beginning of a new tradition and new rise of human beings.“
