4. PRURIENT - "Bermuda Drain" (Hydra Head)
Za jménem Prurient se opět skrývá jen jeden člověk, tentokráte Dominick Fernow, mimojinné např člen Ash Pool. Některé jeho starší releasy vyšly např. na Troubleman Unlimited nebo Important a tohle je jeho první nahrávka pro Hydra Head. Od začátku do konce fakt hodně divná věc, kterou posloucham pořád dokola. Rozhodně se nedá říct, že by se jednalo o klasický black metal, ale troufám si to doporučit všem, co v něm jedou a nebojí se nových věcí.

Pumica - Pumica [Ante Meridiem Records, 2010]



This debut album from Waikato group Pumica draws listeners into a deep, forlorn sound-world that’s equally ambient and suspenseful, sounding somewhat like Tasmanian black metal doomsayer Striborg scratching at the front door while your head’s buried in a pillow. Mixing field recordings (the album was recorded in a house truck during ‘extreme weather conditions’) and minimalist instrumental dirge fests, Pumica conjure passages of mystery and disquiet with a subtle textural sensitivity recalling the work of Blenheim isolationist Omit. The subterranean metal undertones explode in the final track, a whirling dervish of shredding, trebly riffage and ghostly, clattering percussion; with the lo-tech recording aesthetic (reel to reel tape/Dictaphone) adding to the distant air and palpably ambivalent vibe. The skeleton-of-a-guitar riff wanders woefully through darkened farmland while Macrocarpas sway menacingly in gale force winds. An excellent, slow burning mood piece recorded with considerable care for detail, Pumica even specify the listening conditions required for optimal listening (later in the day, on an old stereo).

i když to neni uplně nejnovější rilís, přesně mi to sedí do toho, co teď fernow dělá (viz kompilace pro fact magazine a novej prurient) a je to dobře.

Vatican Shadow - Kneel Before Religious Icons [Hospital Production, 2011]



Great Burzum-like ambient synths with shitty beats on top. In a good way though. This comes in a box with four tapes, and as far as I know there isn't really a proper tracklist. (Discogs.com: Arranged in a radially symmetric fashion inside a 6" reel-to-reel box with color images affixed to the inside and outside. The order of the cassettes is ambiguous; the listing here assumes a clockwise order within the box). I'm pretty sure this release has the most clever cover art too, because I can't help thinking about that piece of shit's smug face when listening. I don't really know how, but I feel like it adds to the music in some sinister way.

Netra – Mélancolie Urbaine [Hypnotic Dirge Records, 2010]



...his music could be described as a hybrid of black metal and trip hop influences, with a peak on the trip hop side. But how exactly does black metal elements combine with something like trip hop? City Light, the first track, shall function as example. The song starts with long drawn synthesizer sounds and an electronic drumbeat, similiar to most of the hip hop beats which are creating a melancholic atmosphere. This atmosphere is accomplished when the first scream and rhythmic guitar riffs are kicking in. After a short melodic interlude, the high pitched growls and rhythmic guitar sounds are amplifying the atmosphere as they build first verse of the song. After another short shift from verse to interlude and vice versa the constellation from the beginning is taking it’s toll on the song and kicks in again to end it.
