    profily: AUSTIN aka Phuture Assassin

    Austin Reynolds
    Real Name: Austin Reynolds
Profile: Producer and engineer for Suburban Base Records during the label's 'golden period' between 1991-1993. Formed Soul Hooligan in 1997. Currently once again recording oldskool-influenced hardcore breaks tracks for labels such as Hardcore Projektz and Warehouse Wax.

    Phuture Assassins
    Real Name: Austin Reynolds
Profile: Long running act made famous for their ragga tinged hardcore releases on seminal UK breakbeat label Suburban Base. Originally started off as a collaboration between Dave Jay (as Dave B) and Reesh for the very first release on Boogie Times, the name was then passed on to Austin Reynolds who collaborated with Krome & Time for the remaining Suburban Base releases. After the hardcore boom was over, the Phuture Assassins faded into obscurity until it was reborn once again in the new millenium with just Austin himself, doing new productions in an oldskool hardcore influenced breaks style for the Warehouse Wax label. The most recent releases have seen a minor name change to "Phuture Assassin".

Bred in laboratories of the south and west and now let loose in the university's of old school are e-labrat, in their tried and tested institution, Producing breaking nu skool beats, burying themselves in the roots of music. Running round the wheels in the of the hardcore labs, the very same laboratories that test rats with old skool euphoria in chemical proportions.
Listen out for the year of the rat.
Three of the recent "Orca" line up (Dave Grier,Kev and Yaz Lloyd) formed "e-lab rat" around new year 2007.
We are continuing to make high-energy, uplifting dance tracks bringing new
    inspiration to the original flavour.
It was the same production team involved in making "Rise Up" (Wax 007) that
enjoyed success in 2005 & was released on the Warehouse Wax complilation Cd
"We're Not Dead". The new tracks maintain this exuberant style, rich in
groove & melody with soulful vocals as ever provided by Yaz.

Ex raver and collector of rare and Obscure Early Hardcore vinyl, mostly 1990-1993...

In 2001 I met up with Vinyl Junkie and promptly set about creating Warehouse Wax Shortly after setting up the business together we decided to make a track recreating the oldskool vibe. We started the record label that ran along side the business and i was involved with the first two releases on the label. I left warehousewax because of other commitments but the label still remains at the forefront of this ever growing genre with Vinyl junkie at the controls. I now run the Hardcore Projektz record label, its primary aim is to release and promote this reincarnated sound....

Discovered rave culture in April 1989 when in Ibiza for what was suppose to be a two week holiday. Immediately hooked on the club scene and this new type of dance music that he hadn't ever encountered before. Returned to England in October a changed man. A week later went to Sunrise Vs Back to the Future in an aircraft hangar at Santa Pod Racecourse, totally blown away. The next year and a half was spent as one of the Ravers.

The first gigs came at the beginning of 1991 at various free party's (then called travelers parties) in the Southwest along with other DJ's like Easy Groove, Donovan "Bad Boy" Smith, DJ Die (now of Full Cycle) and DJ Jody (now of Way Out West).

At the end of '91 after lots of one-off slots at various clubs round Bristol John landed his first residency at "Vibes Alive" who were at the time probably the biggest event in the Bristol calendar. Over the next two years bookings came from promoters like: Ektos, Total Kaos, Obsession and Quest as well as lots of local club promoters. Along the way John had met Rob Pepper & Paul Shurey who were at the time Promoting Universe, this eventually led to him playing in the main arena at Universe's first ever "Tribal Gathering" in April.

A decade later John is still playing / producing and still plays at many of the major nights in the country today including Raindance in London and Illusion in Stoke, Mainly playing the Old Skool sounds of the early nineties and combining the new sounds of Hardcore Breaks... Which is a more recent incarnation of that early 90's sound.

Hardcore breaks was partly spawned by John and his mate Darkus who he met in 2001 and who together launched the label Warehouse Wax. Along with other labels like 2fresh, Bassrock, Enormous Mouse and Darkus' new label Hardcore Projektz John tries to push this sound to the masses and make it a recognised genre.

    profily: Malice & Enzyme (Portal)

Malice and Enzyme first met whilst studying Sound Engineering at College in 1999/2000, however as they were in different classes they didn't really get to know each other until later. After finishing the course they were both heavily into D'n'B as well as Old Skool Hardcore and Enzyme invited Malice to play on a London FM pirate he was on. From this they began making tunes together in Enzyme's Brixton based studio and it wasn't long before they were making plans to set up a D'n'B label. At the same time however, they'd made a couple of hardcore tracks in classic 1992 style and it dawned on them that if Old Skool Hardcore is still so popular why not have a go at setting up a New Old Skool (as it was called before the term 'Hardcore Breaks' thankfully caught on) label??? There were a number of people already releasing faster Breakbeat Hardcore (160bpm - 180bpm) but the duo were quite keen to try and focus on pushing the slower side of things. It turned out they were not alone when they came into contact with Darkus and Vinyl Junkie who were also making moves to set up their own label called 'Warehouse Wax'.

Running Man has been mixing since 1992, making his radio debut on Flex 103.6 FM at the age of 16, shortly after becoming resident at a night put on by D.V.ANT Records at the Fridge Bar, Brixton. He became one of the original members of Shadow FM, and was playing alongside Twisted Individual, MC Jakes, Crystal Clear and many more. Running Man continued to play at nights for D.V.ANT which included the It's All Bollocks party's @ Brixton Academy & Mass, Trojan @ Mass, the D.V.ANT tent at the Legalise Cannabis Festival @ Brockwell Park and countless warehouse parties and illegal raves. Meanwhile he had begun writing and producing his own tracks, while studying acoustics, electronics, engineering and production techniques, eventually gaining the equivalent of 2 A'levels at these subjects and others. He then set up his own drum and bass record label by the name of Unsocial Audio and released four of his tracks which have been played by Randall, Mampi Swift, Nicky Black Market, Ray Keith, Devious-D, Kane, DJ Ital, Ruffstuff, Swan-E, Peshay and many more...

Luján started to make tunes at the end of 1998. In 1999 he discovered sites such as Hardcore Music Alley, Bassquake and Back To The Old Skool, and learned a lot more about the scene, making his interest grow. In 2000 he released a tune on Seven Records Vol.1 (2000 Years of Breaks), a cd compilation of spanish producers. He then started collecting records and got more involved in the production.

In 2003 HyperCore is launched, a personal project dedicated to the scene, trying to promote the Hardcore sound in Spain. Through HyperCore, Luján has done some parties in Tenerife, such as HyperCore – Hardcore Revival, and HyperCore – Hardcore Revival II.

He is influenced by producers like Liam Howlett, Acen, Altern-8, Andy C, Ellis Dee, Phantasy, Blame, Hype, Neil Rumney, Orca and Nebula II, and the sound of DJs like Ratty.
