Sid vs Max vs Dryer (Reebok Commercial)
I read that Reebok had made an exact replica of Sidney Crosby's parent's basement where Sidney had played hours of hockey. Many of us have seen the washer and dryer littered with dents.
Reebok is planning to air an ad featuring the Crosby basement during the Winter Classic.
Growing up, we had a basement hockey rink. My parents basement is small with a low ceiling, but we didn't mind. The room/rink has two cinder block walls and was prepared for hockey. We painted the floor with a half court line and circle. Two small creases where the two milk crate nets went. I had two metal shelving units in the corner where all our gear was stored.
Sometimes we'd pull in the outside goal and suit up a goalie to fire shots at.
Sometimes we'd play a full court 1 on 1 game with the milk crates.
Body checking was not only encouraged, but manditory.
We had an annual hockey tournament where the winner won the "cup". The "cup" was an old 70's wooden lamp post about 3-4' in height with an old youth protective cup haphazardly screwed to it with a few sheetrock screws. We then added the tournament winner to the base with some Brother P-Touch lables.
We haven't played in well over 10 years now. But the room/rink is still ready to go. There still remains a good ammount of vintage abused gear. The floor is still good. The nets are in the corner. Hopefully my brothers and our friends can fire up a game again.
My mom has started filling the room with various boxes of junk though... getting old stinks.
