EVENT FORMAT
The Shadow Era World Championships 2012 will take place in two stages:
Stage 1 - Swiss Tournament
There will be five or six rounds, dependent on number of entrants, and every player will play in every round.
Each round lasts ONE WEEK, and will consist of four games against your assigned opponent.
Each player will have brought two decks (with different heroes) to that round. (Decks can be changed between rounds.)
In game 1, Player A goes first with one of his/her two decks, against one of Player B's two decks.
In game 2, players use those same decks but Player B goes first.
In game 3, Player A uses his other deck against Player B's other deck.
In game 4, players use the same decks again, but Player B goes first.
The assignment of who is A and who is B will be done at random (not that it matters much).
For each game won, a Player earns 1 point. If they win overall (3-1 or 4-0) then they get an additional point.
Opponents in the first round will be decided at random. Opponents in subsequent rounds will be determined based on points. (Those with 5 pts are paired up, those with 4 points are paired up, those with 2 points are paired up, and so forth. The exception here is that you cannot face the same person in two different rounds.)
At the end of the five or six rounds, we will have top 30 players, and they go to the Grand Finals on 16-17th June.
Stage 2 - Grand Finals
This will be a single-elimination tournament, consisting of 32 players.
Players will bring one deck and one deck only, and may not make changes between games.
On Day 1 of the Finals, we will have three rounds, taking us from 32 players down to the final 4.
On Day 2 of the Finals, we will have the semi-finals and final.
Each round of the finals will be best of five games. Whoever goes first in a deciding game will be determined at random.
There will be a third place play-off.
Other information:
All decks are 40-card minimum (hero + at least 39 other cards).
Entrance fee is 500 Shadow Crystals.
Entrance deadline is 12th April.
Swiss Round 1 is from 14th April to 20th April.
Swiss Round 2 is from 21st April to 27th April.
Swiss Round 3 is from 28th April to 4th May.
Swiss Round 4 is from 5th May to 11th May.
Swiss Round 5 is from 12th May to 18th May.
Swiss Round 6 is from 19th May to 25th May.
Grand Finals are on the weekend of 16-17th June.
Grand Prize is a New iPad (aka "iPad3").
Shadow Crystals and physical cards will also be prizes.
Registration will start soon. There is unlimited capacity, but the entrance deadline of 12th April is a strict deadline.
Anyone who misses out on registering, or does not make the top 30 in Stage 1, can take part in one of two last-chance qualifier tournaments that will happen prior to the Grand Finals, where the two winners of those secure spots 31 and 32.
NOTE: This is completely separate to the Shadow Era League.
