Dadub - You Are Eternity
Debut album of hard-edged, high-def and strictly dubwize techno from Dadub, new on Stroboscopic Artefacts. Daniele Antezza and Giovanni Conti have been instrumental in defining the sound of SA, not only through their own productions but as mastering engineers on every one of the label's releases to date. Unsurprisingly, their first album-length offering is deep and bass-aware as they come; they use the wide canvas to offer the fullest possible expression of their well-honed aesthetic, and to scope out some interesting new territory along the way. 'Vibration' initiates us into their masterfully dread soundsphere, generating a feeling of incredible density and momentum with nary a kickdrum or snare in sight. It doesn't take long for the rhythms to more vividly assert themselves: the industrial 4/4 club killers that form the backbone of the album have a Latin flair to them redolent of classic Surgeon and Female, not to mention recent tackle from SA boss Lucy. 'Circle''s dead-eyed, pedal-to-the-floor warehouse thump is pure Sandwell, while 'Death''s ploughs the frozen landscapes of Porter Ricks with corkscrewing, T++ style drum patterns. There are plenty of serene, ambient interludes, but they pail before the heavy metal violence of 'Transfer', which sounds like Scorn soundtracking a scrapheap fistfight between two seriously pissed-off Transformers.
