V doprovodu svého manžela Osirise (představovaného pásem souhvězdí Orion) se Eset vracela zpět. Nejprve se nad obzorem objevil pán podsvětí Osiris ve hvězdách našeho orionu. Následovala jej jeho žena Eset v podobě Síria. Vše mohlo být obrozeno, břehy Nilu zúrodněny blížícími se záplavami.
Slunce, ztělesňující jeden z aspektů Hóra, bylo symbolicky synem bohů symbolizovaných Síriem a Orionem. Egypťané již mnohem dříve jednoduchým výpočtem stanovili, že pokud se Sírius zpožďuje o 1 den za 4 roky, pak se vrátí zpět do stejného dne v kalendáři za 365 x 4 = 1460 let (resp. 1456). Tuto periodu 1460 egyptských kalendářních let nazýváme obdobím Sopdet. Cyklus označujeme jako sotická perioda (sothický cyklus, Sothic cycle, období Sothis)
Římský historik Tacitus ve svém díle Letopisy zmiňuje, že se Fénix vracel do Heliopole každých 1461 let a naposledy to bylo roku 34 n.l. To ukazuje spojitost se sotickou periodou. Fénix je tedy symbol Síria, což dokládá i červená barva či město Heliopolis, odkud bývaly sledovány východy Síria.
Řecký výraz phoenix označoval ptáka, kterého Egypťané dříve nazývali bennu. Pták bennu byl spojen s duší (ba) slunečního boha Ra. Bennu (bnw) doprovázel bohy na jejich cestě duatem, dokud se neobjevili po sedmdesáti dnech na ranním nebi. Pták bennu sedával na vrcholu kamene benben. Posvátný kámen ve tvaru pyramidy či kónusu byl umístěn v chrámu v Heliopoli a snad tvořil i vrcholky pyramid.
Sírius představoval v zarathuštrovské tradici světlo.
Také její titul Stella Maris - Hvězda moří je převzat od bohyně Isis, podobně jako půlměsíc, na kterém stála. Mořem nebylo původně míněno naše slané moře ale nebesa. Hvězdou nebeského moře byl Sírius, nejjasnější hvězda na obloze.
Sumerská bohyně Bau snad měla vztah k Psí hvězdě. Byla dcerou nejvyššího sumerského boha Anua, který byl zobrazován jako šakal. Propojení Síria se psem je původním staroegyptským tradicím cizí. Vazba mezi Síriem a psem se začala vytvářet teprve pod řecko-římským vlivem. Bohyně Isis pak byla vzácně zobrazována jedoucí na psu. Čína znala Síria jako Tsien Lang - Nebeského vlka.
Čerokíové věřili, že Sírius a Antares jsou psi hvězdy strážící konec Cesty duší - Mléčné dráhy. V zimě chránil Sírius východní konec, Antares v létě střežil konec západní.
Starověcí Peršané zobrazovali Sírius přímo jako šíp. V Indo-íránských mýtech byl Sírius personifikován s božským lukostřelcem Tištrijou (Tishtrya, perský Tir-šíp).
Ve starověké Indii byl Sírius spojen s lovem. V sanskrtu byla hvězda jmenována jako Lovec. Védy nazývají hvězdu Tištrija, Tišiga (Tishiga) či Tistar - Vůdčí hvězda.
V Koránu lze identifikovat pouze dvě nebeská tělesa - Slunce a Síria. Alláh je nazýván jako Pán Síria.
Starověcí Mayové sledovali zejména heliakální východy Venuše a vedli podle nich přesný kalendář. Některé chrámy však zřejmě zaměřili také na heliakální východy Síria.

Sírius a posvátná padesátka ?
Někteří badatelé se domnívají, že Sírius je v mýtech spojen s číslem 50 či 49. Připomínají, že oběh Síria B kolem Síria A trvá také necelých 50 let.
50 bylo sumerských bohů Anunnaků. Bůh Marduk si získal 50 jmen. 50 hrdinů doprovázelo Gílgameše do podzemí.
Král Aktaión (Actaeon) spatřil nahou koupající se bohyni Artemis. Bohyně se rozhněvala a proměnila krále v jelena. Aktaióna pak uštvala a roztrhala jeho smečka padesáti loveckých psů.

The similarities are not just uncanny – they are exact. Yet this is viewed as nothing more than a coincidence, because in modern thinking it is assumed that the Egyptians could not have had this knowledge. Thus we are blinded to the obvious. The Eye of Horus was also broken into six basic components, each representing a different sense; smell, touch, taste, hearing, sight and thought. The thalamus is the part of the human brain which translates all incoming signals from our senses. Could the symbolism of this be any clearer?

The ancient Egyptian symbol Wadjet (the Eye of Horus) means god/goddess and bears a striking resemblance to the anatomy of the pineal gland and brainstem. It has been postulated that “near-death experiences” are caused by a massive release of dimethyltriptamine (DMT) from the pineal gland. The French philosopher René Descartes studied the pineal gland extensively and referred to it as “the principal seat of the soul.”

The Benu Bird

Myths from several regions associate birds with the creation of the world. One of several creation stories in ancient Egypt said that when land rose out of the primeval waters of chaos, the first deity to appear was a bird perching on that land. The Egyptians called the god the Benu bird and portrayed it as a long-legged, wading heron in the sun temple at Heliopolis. The Benu bird created the universe and then made gods and goddesses and men to live in that universe.

The Benu Bird was said to have created itself from a fire which burned at the top of the sacred persea tree in Heliopolis and it rested on the Benben Stone, a pillar topped by a pyramid shaped stone, which became the most sacred fetish worshipped in the city. On the Metternich Stele, Isis says to her son, Horus: ‘Thou are the Great Benu who was born on the incense tree in the House of the Great Prince of Heliopolis”. The capstones of the pyramids and the pyramids themselves were thought to be a representation of the Benben Stone (The Stone of Creation) and the Kings buried beneath were under the direct protection of the Sun God.



(The most important temple in Heliopolis was the “Mansion of the Benben“, also known as the “Mansion of the Phoenix“. In the middle of the Temple in an open courtyard, stood an Obelisk, on top of which sat the “Benben Stone“. The Benben stone looked like a small Pyramid. The Benben Stone was seen as the solidified Seed of Atum, the Stone of Creation. It was on this stone that the Phoenix or Benu Bird would return every 12.594 years and place its new Egg. At that moment a new Era of Mankind was started.)

The Benu’s cry had begun the cycle of time, which the Egyptians believed to be divinely appointed. Divided as such: the twenty four hour day with twelve hours for both daytime and nighttimes, the ten days that comprised the Egyptian week, the thirty day month, the year of twelve months (365 days) and periods of 1460 years in which the civil and astronomical calendars diverged and then coincided again. The Temple of the Benu Bird at Heliopolis was primarily concerned with the regulation of the calendar and the Benu Bird itself became the deity concerned with the division of time.
