Announcements - Effect of Mirror Hatch Incident on Open Use Observations of Subaru Telescope (Report 3) - Subaru Telescope
    http://subarutelescope.org/Announce/2016/07/14/index.html
Subaru Telescope is planning works including the repair of the mirror hatch (Note) in multiple phases. Therefore, open use observations
at the Subaru Telescope will be suspended from August 15 to 21, 2016 in Hawaii Time for seven nights. There may be additional downtimes
between October 17 and November 6, 2016. These schedules might change according to the progress of the necessary work. The scheduled
work of the primary mirror recoating is moved from this summer 2016 to 2017 or later.

Temperate Earth-sized Planets Transiting a Nearby Ultracool Dwarf Star - Astrobiology
    http://astrobiology.com/...mperate-earth-sized-planets-transiting-a-nearby-ultracool-dwarf-star.html
Star-like objects with effective temperatures of less than 2,700 kelvin are referred to as ultracool dwarfs.
This heterogeneous group includes stars of extremely low mass as well as brown dwarfs (substellar objects not
massive enough to sustain hydrogen fusion), and represents about 15 per cent of the population of astronomical
    objects near the Sun.

Core-accretion theory predicts that, given the small masses of these ultracool dwarfs, and the small sizes of their protoplanetary disk, there should be a large
but hitherto undetected population of terrestrial planets orbiting them - ranging from metal-rich Mercury-sized planets to more hospitable volatile-rich Earth-
sized planets. Here we report observations of three short-period Earth-sized planets transiting an ultracool dwarf star only 12 parsecs away. The inner two planets
receive four times and two times the irradiation of Earth, respectively, placing them close to the inner edge of the habitable zone of the star.

Our data suggest that 11 orbits remain possible for the third planet, the most likely resulting in irradiation significantly less than that received by Earth.
The infrared brightness of the host star, combined with its Jupiter-like size, offers the possibility of thoroughly characterizing the components of this nearby
    planetary system.

NASA's Next Mars Rover Progresses Toward 2020 Launch
    http://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasas-next-mars-rover-progresses-toward-2020-launch
After an extensive review process and passing a major development milestone, NASA is ready to proceed with final design and
construction of its next Mars rover, currently targeted to launch in the summer of 2020 and arrive on the Red Planet in February 2021.

The Mars 2020 rover will investigate a region of Mars where the ancient environment may have been favorable for microbial life, probing
the Martian rocks for evidence of past life. Throughout its investigation, it will collect samples of soil and rock and cache them on
the surface for potential return to Earth by a future mission.

    50 dní do startu!

    https://www.nasa.gov/feature/testing-confirms-asteroid-sampler-will-speak-clearly-with-earth
A spacecraft designed to map the surface of an asteroid and then gather a sample from its surface will have plenty of information
to share with scientists back on Earth during the next seven years, so engineers spent more than a week at NASA's Kennedy Space Center
in Florida making sure the spacecraft's antennas, transmitters and other technical equipment will be up to the task.

The communications system testing will be the last for the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft before it is packaged into launch configuration and
trucked to Space Launch Complex-41 where it will be positioned on the nose of an Atlas V rocket and sent into space in early September.
Once on its way to an asteroid dubbed Bennu, the spacecraft will unfold its power-generating solar arrays and start sending back reports
to Earth that will be picked up by NASA's Deep Space Network.

    NASA’s SDO Takes a Spin
    https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2016/nasa-s-sdo-takes-a-spin
On July 6, 2016, engineers instructed NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, or SDO, to roll 360 degrees on one axis.
SDO dutifully performed the seven-hour maneuver, while producing some dizzying data: For this period of time, SDO
images – taken every 12 seconds – appeared to show the sun spinning, as if stuck on a pinwheel. This video was
taken by SDO’s Atmospheric Imaging Assembly instrument in extreme ultraviolet wavelengths that are typically
invisible to our eyes, but was colorized here in gold for easy viewing.

New Horizons: Imagining a Landing on Pluto
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKmixf1pC2w

Imagine a future spacecraft following New Horizons’ trailblazing path to Pluto, but instead of flying past its target,
the next visitor touches down in the midst of tall mountains on the icy plains of Pluto’s heart.

There’s no need to wait for that fantasy trip, thanks to new video produced by New Horizons scientists. Made from more
than 100 New Horizons images taken over six weeks of approach and close flyby, the video offers a “trip” to Pluto. It
starts with a distant spacecraft’s view of Pluto and its largest moon, Charon – closing the distance day by day – with
a dramatic “landing” on the shoreline of Pluto’s frozen plains.

“Just over a year ago, Pluto was just a dot in the distance,” said New Horizons Principal Investigator Alan Stern, of
the Southwest Research Institute, Boulder, Colorado. “This video shows what it would be like to ride aboard an approaching
spacecraft and see Pluto grow to become a world, and then to swoop down over its spectacular terrains as if we were
    approaching some future landing.”

    Chandra :: Photo Album :: GRB 140903A :: July 14, 2016
    http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2016/grb/
On September 3, 2014, NASA's Swift observatory picked up a GRB - dubbed GRB 140903A due to the date it was detected.
Scientists used optical observations with the Gemini Observatory telescope in Hawaii to determine that GRB 140903A
was located in a galaxy about 3.9 billion light years away, relatively nearby for a GRB.
