Guys, please stop making fun of this epoch-defining song. It is clearly about the civil rights movement. It tells the story of Rosa Parks, who on Thursday, December 1, 1955, took a stand to not give up her seat in the bus to a white man. This song is about "Friday", i.e. the day after Thursday/the time after the civil right movement/contemporary society, when a black person has the choice to sit anywhere on the bus, hence the lyrics, "gotta make up my mind which seat can I take" because we are all "friends" now. "Fun" and "partying" are just a trivial way to talk about a just and open society where everybody can be treated as equal citizens and enjoy their pursuit of happiness. The poet then goes on to talk about how he doesn't want the weekend to end - in other words, he hopes this Utopian society can continue and become better over time. It is truly a youth anthem and I hope we can each take its message of peace, tolerance and equality to heart; not just for the civil rights generation but for any oppressed people, past present and future.

By narrow domestic walls(...)/
Let my country awake". - Tagore
