FACT Focus 3: Renegade Hardware

This week’s installment comes from Anthoney Hart (aka Imaginary Forces and Basic Rhythm), who focuses on oft-overlooked D&B imprint Renegade Hardware. Hart cut his teeth spinning on London pirate radio in the 90s, and Renegade Hardware was a big part of that.

“It was a label that made up at least half of every set I played on Rude FM from the late 90s to the early 2000s,” he says. “I feel it’s a label that is often overlooked in favour of ‘hardcore jungle classics’.”

PHNCST223 - DJRUM (2nd Drop Records)

When listening to every Djrum sets, fluidity is probably the main adjective that comes to mind. His ability to build bridges between Dubstep, Bass, Techno, DnB and experimental music is impressive. It sensibility also appears through his productions that often express a lyrism that might be perfectly on point or some time to cheesy to be honest. His first three Eps demonstrated his dexterity to juggle between styles and concepts that marked the differences with many UK bass djs of the early 2010′s. However, his LP « Seven Lies » illustrate the limits of his cinematic recipes. His nice return on Samuraï Red Seal sounded like a great excuse to invite him to play for Phonographe Corp in Paris. Before he does his debut at La Rotonde Stalingrad, the 19th of September, we suggest you to listen to this set. A Phonocast that mix 17 tracks with high precision.
