Venku je nový dokument od Glawoggera.... Whores' Glory (2011)

Zatím jsem neviděl (stahuju), ale těším se!

WHORES' GLORY is a cinematic triptych on prostitution: three countries, three languages, three religions. In Thailand, women wait for clients behind glass panes, staring at reflections of themselves. In Bangladesh, men go to a ghetto of love to satisfy their unfulfilled desires on indentured girls. And in Mexico, women pray to a female death to avoid facing their own reality.

In worlds where the most intimate act has become a commodity, these women have physically and emotionally experienced everything that can happen between a man and a woman. For this they have always received money, but it has not made their lives rich in anything but stories.

    DIRECTOR'S COMMENTS:

    NOT JUST SEX FOR MONEY
The topics in WHORES' GLORY are certainly loaded because everyone believes they know something about prostitution, particularly when he or she has never been to a brothel, or they know about it from the media or simply from second hand information. I tried to go in with only one expectation: "This is certainly not going to be what I think it is." I have always felt that prostitution isn't only about paying somebody for sex. That would be too simple, because when negotiations are over and the deal is done, it would only be about two naked people doing the most intimate of acts. I wanted to try and explore more: what does it do to the hearts, minds and souls on both sides?

    MEN AND WOMEN
When I start a film, I always need a premise that can be contradicted or confirmed by reality. For WHORES' GLORY, I chose the theory that the female/male relationship of any given culture can be depicted in prostitution as in everyday life, only dealings move much faster. For example, in Mexico City there is a back alley where prostitutes parade all day long. Men lean against the walls, standing there watching this parade of the dolled up working girls. But the rule of the game is that the men are not allowed to openly choose. They can try to make eye contact, or wink at a girl, maybe sometimes give her a little sign. But it is the woman who has to stop and start to talk with the man. Then when they come to an agreement, the man can take her to a nearby hotel room. This ritual is the perfect mirror of how men and women relate to each other in a strict Catholic society. In WHORES' GLORY, you can see similar rituals and situations. The glass separation between the men and women in Thailand; the men in Bangladesh arriving in groups and choosing the girls together; the Mexican men cruising in cars for the women of their choice.

    LOCATIONS DEPICTING THE EXPERIENCE
The most important thing for me was to find places where I could cinematically depict the experience that I want to share with the audience. For example, the Fish Tank in Bangkok separates men and women with a thick piece of glass. Only the men can see the women properly. The mirror-like glass allows the women to only see mostly themselves. By watching the "surface" of this place, you can already detect a lot of details. A place like that makes sense in a cinematographic way. Faridpur's huge prostitution compound, "City of Joy," was also a location that inspired me cinematographically, as well as the dusty roads of Reynosa's La Zona... It was also important for me to show differences in mindsets on the basis of sexuality. The Thailand segment shows a relatively less complex, almost light-footed kind of prostitution that has a certain friendly edge. In Bangladesh, it goes a bit deeper because it's very much rooted in the society, and in Mexico it is actually about death, about an all-dominating desire for death.

    Adam Curtis o náboženství a o politice:

    Who would God vote for?
When you bring God into politics very strange things happen. You can see this now in both America and Iran - in their elections and also in the growing confrontation between them. But it wasn't always like this - in fact for most of the 20th century fundamentalist religion in both America and Iran had turned its back on the world of politics and power.

But in the 1970s everything changed. For that was the moment when religion was deliberately brought into politics in both countries with the aim of using it as a revolutionary force. And those who did this - Khomeini in Iran, and right-wing activists in America - were inspired by the revolutionary theories and organisations of the left and their ambition to transform society in a radical way.

I want to tell the forgotten story of how this happened - and how in the 1980s both the Americans and the Iranian idealists came together in a very odd way - with disastrous consequences.

Raids in the Rainforest: A film by Thomas Wartmann
In the Brazilian Amazon, environmentalists, scientists and politicians are facing one of the most difficult challenges of our time. If the earth's lungs collapse, the planet itself will collapse. This three-part series, The Fight for Amazonia, looks at the efforts being made to save the rainforest - not simply revealing how bleak the prospects are, but documenting the avenues that raise hope.

Adam Curtis a jeho blog nikdy nezklame... tentokrát (mimo jiné) o tom, jak britská horrorová antologie Přízraky noci (Dead of Night) spustila diskuzi, jejíž výsledkem byla tzv. Steady State theory, alternativa k terorii Velkého třesku.

One September night in 1945 three British mathematicians and astronomers went to see a new film at a cinema in Cambridge. It was called Dead of Night. It was a series of ghost stories told by a group of people gathered together in a farmhouse. The stories are linked by a device of a central character who is convinced that he has experienced the whole situation in the farmhouse before. In the end he murders another of the group - but then wakes up from this terrible dream.

That morning the telephone rings, he is invited down to the farmhouse, and the whole story, or dream, starts all over again.

The scientists loved the film, and they sat discussing its circular structure. One of them suggested that it could be the model for how the whole universe really worked. That, although the universe was expanding, it was also constantly renewing itself - to maintain itself in a steady state.

Out if this came what was called the "Steady State" theory of the universe. It was going to dominate scientific thinking for the next twenty years, and it would also make one of the three scientists very famous.

He was a very difficult and argumentative man called Fred Hoyle - and the story of what happened to him and his idea is odd and funny - and also shows how science can often add a spurious certainty to the stories that modern societies tell themselves.

I also want to tell the story of two of the men behind the film Dead of Night - because both of them were convinced that the certainties of the post-war years had trapped Britain in a narrow bubble that was preventing it from seeing the world as it really was.

And we may still be in that bubble.

    Tigers, Crocodiles, Korans and Superstitions
    http://www.michaelyon-online.com/tigers-crocodiles-korans-and-superstitions.htm

When a man says, “It’s a jungle out there,” he means, “It’s the Sundarbans.” Among the many wild and unforgiving places in the approximately 65 countries I’ve traveled, most are fairly safe when approached with good judgment and aforethought. The Sundarbans is not one of those places. Few jungles are this dangerous.
The natives here rub shoulders with mortality on a daily basis. And so before venturing into the labyrinth waterways, one should acquire a guide, which in my case was a government employee with a powerful FN-FAL rifle to ward off man and beast. Competent, local guides are always your best insurance, and if I had a choice of any rifle in the world to bring here, the FN-FAL would be high on the list. And so those boxes were checked.
