A story from Spannerhead
An overview of the autonomous work of graphic designer Maarten van Maanen [Holland]. The booklet
tells the story about development of the world of spannerhead. Next to
documentation of the work it is also a work itself.
Maarten creates figurative work on the computer. These are
vectordrawings combined with landscapephotography.
The figures, object and surrounding are static and flat. Within the
landscape the scene is laid in. He makes a world of workers, tourists,
fathers, mothers, magicians, cops, professors, woodchoppers, children,
bums, drinkers, boys, girls and mummies. The maincharacter of this
world is spannerhead. Next to that there are realistic figures and
symboles. The realistic figures are stereotypes for human behaviour.
The symbols floath next to the figures or somewhere in the scene and
tell something about it. The whole picture is like a model.
