“M for man: future occupants of coffins, who are still allowed to
walk around for a while and make all sorts of practical jokes.”
This is one of the many conceptual definitions coined by the writer
and editor Herbert Müller-Guttenbrunn (1887-1945).
The booklover's gem The Anarchistic Amateur's Art & Alphabet
brings together around 50 of his astute, whimsical and often
highly topical "aphorisms, maxims and reflections" with just as many
works by visual artists, which were 2019/2020 first shown in
< rotor > in Graz and afterwards in the Stadtgalerie Waidhofen/Ypps.
The selection is based on the existence of anarchistic elements
in the individual works. And thereby follows a thought by
Horst Stowasser: “Certainly more people are ‘anarchists’ than just
those who call themselves so. Many just don't know.”
