Balkan Brilliance!
Back in 1992, Croatia and Slovenia were recognised as independent states. In this relatively short space of time, they have made their mark on our records database and here is the evidence:
Largest quadrill dance multiple locations
The largest simultaneous quadrille consisted of 23,628 participants in 36 towns across Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia & Montenegro, Hungary and Austria on 19 May 2006.
Oldest musical instrument
An ancient bone flute, estimated to be about 43,000—82,000 years old, was found by Dr Ivan Turk (Slovenia), a palaeontologist at the Slovenian Academy of Science at a Neanderthal campsite in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1998. The oldest known musical instrument, it is made of an old cavebear femur segment with four holes (two complete and two partial).
Tallest bonfire
The tallest bonfire tondo measured 43.44 m (142 ft 6.2 in) high and has an overall volume of 1715.7 m³ (60, 58 ft³). It was built by ŠKD mladi Boštanj, and lit on 30 April 2007 in Boštanj, Slovenija, to celebrate Labour Day.
Unicycle, longest continuous ride
Joze Voros (Slovenia) covered 143.46 km (89.14 miles) on a unicycle without his feet touching the ground on 18 October 2004 at Murska Sobota, Slovenia.
Furthest distance on an aquabike in 24 hours
The record for the greatest distance covered on a jet ski within 24 hours is 1,031 km (604.6 miles) and was achieved by Davor Hundic (Croatia) between Icici, Dubrovnik and Rab (Croatia) on a RXT SeaDoo jet ski on 25 June 2006.
Greatest distance moonwalked in one hour
The record for the greatest distance moonwalked in one hour is 5.255 km (3.265 miles), achieved by Krunoslav Budiselic (Croatia) who moonwalked at the Athletic Stadium Mladost, in Zagreb, Croatia, on 10 September 2006.
Largest appendix removed
The longest appendix measured 26 cm (10.24 in) when it was removed from 72-year-old Safranco August (Croatia) during an autopsy at the Ljudevit Jurak University Department of Pathology, Zagreb, Croatia, on 26 August 2006.
