    "The Naked Game"
The worlds first piece of online conceptual video game art
"Welcome to the Naked Game. What you are seeing is a primitive version of 'Pong', being played by two artificial intelligences, with the entire code governing the mechanics of the game exposed below it, and the variables affecting the mechanics to the right. Furthermore, you can remove lines of code and see the effects in real time.

The motivation behind this piece was to further explore the degree to which video games can be considered 'Art', by using the constituent parts of a well known gaming experience to explore themes of freedom, restriction, and frailty."

    JODI http://wwwwwwwww.jodi.org
Jodi, or jodi.org, is a collective of two internet artists: Joan Heemskerk (Bogotá) and Dirk Paesmans (Caracas). Their background is in photography and video art; since the mid-1990s they started to create original artworks for the World Wide Web. A few years later, they also turned to software art and artistic computer game modification. Since 2002, they have been in what has been called their "Screen Grab" period, making video works by recording the computer monitor's output while working, playing video games, or coding.

“Max Payne Cheats Only” • 2004

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1711659658369686402

In Max Payne Cheats Only (2005), Jodi appropriates a hard-boiled videogame and ‘tricks’ it, immediately revealing the pack of lies of the conventions on which it is based – conventions that make us perceive the game as an alternative believable reality where we can experience adventures – and making the suspension of disbelief an impossible journey.

    What is Art?
This page collects answers to this fundamental question from various people in the artgame world.
In the case of the interview responses, the respondents were asked the following question: "Can you give us a one-sentence definition of art? In other words, how do you differentiate works of entertainment from works of art?"
