I don't get why people get so heated / hate-filled about the DNBA awards and who won or didn't etc.
It's not really relevant to what a lot of us do or our kind of sound which comes under the 'D&B' banner or tag.
If you're into awards for music then great I actually think the awards are very well put together each year, I just don't agree with people who work extremely hard contributing towards this music being publicly 'awarded' or made out to be effectively 'better' than anyone else that contributes in the same way on a world public stage.
I don't think art / that passion for making music should ever be represented with a trophy of any kind and I feel a bit sad for artists who strive to change their music / make it more 'pop' sounding because these awards are clearly so important to them (referring to visible vote beg tactics here, let's face it - this wouldn't happen if the awards themselves didn't influence some artists or labels own want or desire to win so badly) but this is just an opinion of my own, the annual awards ceremony is not an event which bothers me and probably shouldn't really to anyone else, plus DNBA do always put a great show on for sure!
No one needs an award ceremony to stay hungry, the scene itself is in a great place with or without any kind of trophy, each to their own but I definitely don't see the need to get vexed up about the awards, it's gonna be there every year (with most probably similar outcomes year after year) - like it or not.
