Melrose Abbey - Skotsko

Necelých 40 mil jižně od Edinburku v kraji zvaném "Borders" senacházejí čtyři významná středověká opactví. Dnes již romantické gotické riuny z růžového kamene.

Nejznámější se jmenuje Melrose Abbey. Neuvěřitelné torzo z části nedostavěné az části pobořené katedrály spolu se zbytky opactví a mlýnem stojí uprostřed malého městečka Melrose.

De animalibus et reptilibus (c.44): Krokodil. Die Tierdarstellungen im Hortus sanitatis sind durchaus unterschiedlicher Qualität: Je exotischer ein Tier ist, desto abenteuerlicher ist auch die Abbildung, da eine Autopsie nur in seltenen Fällen möglich war. Jedenfalls empfiehlt bereits der römische Schriftsteller Plinius eine Krokodilsalbe zur Verjüngung des Antlitzes und als Wundermittel gegen Falten.
