The TCMV meeting (117th session) in Brussels on May 5, 2026 concluded without a vote, as EU officials held an information session on Tesla’s “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” system under Article 39.
According to Reuters, the Dutch vehicle authority RDW presented its preliminary approval, based on more than 1.6 million kilometers of testing on public roads and test tracks. The system has been authorized in the Netherlands since April 10, with the driver required to remain in control at all times.
Regulators raised several concerns during discussions, including:
• Vehicles exceeding speed limits
• Performance in icy conditions, particularly in Nordic countries
• Detection of large animals such as moose
• The use of the name “Full Self-Driving”
• Pressure from Tesla supporters contacting officials
Reuters also reported that some EU officials expressed more positive views based on early observations.
No vote took place during the session.
