Hot Jupiter-esque Discovery Hints at Planet Formation W. M. Keck Observatory
    http://www.keckobservatory.org/recent/entry/hot_jupiter_esque_discovery_hints_at_planet_formation
A team of astronomers discovered a Jupiter-like planet within a young system that could serve as a decoder ring for understanding
how planets formed around our sun. The W. M. Keck Observatory on Maunakea, Hawaii confirmed the discovery. The findings were headed
by Bruce Macintosh, a professor of physics at Stanford University, and show the new planet, 51 Eridani b, is one million times fainter
than its parent star and shows the strongest methane signature ever detected on an alien planet, which should yield additional clues
as to how the planet formed. The results are published in the current issue of Science.

END OF PHYSICS near as physicists reach their limit on understanding the Universe

PHYSICISTS fear that we may be reaching the limit of what we can understand about the Universe and “for the first time
in the history of science, we could be facing questions that we cannot answer”, a leading expert has claimed.

Scientists study early evolution of activated asteroid P/2016 G1
    http://phys.org/news/2016-07-scientists-early-evolution-asteroid-p2016.html
A team of Spanish astronomers has recently observed a newly discovered asteroid designated P/2016 G1 (PANSTARRS), revealing its activity and measuring
its total dust loss. The findings, detailing the most probable hypothesis that could explain the cause of this activity, were published July 12 on arXiv.org.

Median stack images of P/2016 G1 obtained with the OSIRIS instrument of the 10.4m GTC through a Sloan r′ filter, at the indicated dates.
North is up, East to the left. The directions opposite to Sun and the negative of the orbital velocity motion are shown. The arrow in
the middle of central panel indicates the westward feature that emerges from the inverted C-shaped mentioned in the text.

A History of Collisions Between the Magellanic Clouds
    http://aasnova.org/2016/07/11/a-history-of-collisions-between-the-magellanic-clouds/
Recent deep observations of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, have revealed a faint arc of stars extending
from its northern outskirts. Was this stream created by the gravitational pull of the Milky Way? Or could it have a more violent source?

The area surrounding the LMC. The stellar arc discovered with the Dark Energy Survey is shown in the region labeled A.
The current study discovered additional asymmetric substructure in the region labeled C. [Besla et al. 2016]

ALMA Achieved Highest Sensitivity Polarimetry in Millimeter Wavelength - News & Columns - ALMA NAOJ
    http://alma.mtk.nao.ac.jp/..._achieved_highest_sensitivity_polarimetry_in_millimeter_wavelength.html
Researchers have demonstrated ALMA's unprecedented capability for polarimetry in millimeter wavebands. Polarimetry is an important method
to investigate magnetic fields in the Universe and astronomers eager to use ALMA for unveiling magnetic mysteries, such as the launching
mechanism of high energy jets from supermassive black holes.

The magnetic field is ubiquitous and plays considerable roles in the Universe. We can find the directions by using a compass thanks to
Earth's magnetic field. Sunspots and solar flares are driven by magnetic fields in the Sun. Magnetic fields are also important in various
phenomena including formation of stars and planets and exotic events around black holes. In spite of its significance, measurement of
magnetic fields is challenging. Polarimetry is one of the handful methods to investigate magnetic fields in the Universe.

A Professor of Astrophysics from The University of Manchester has teamed up with two acclaimed music producers
to create a unique composition using sounds from space, which is now being released as a limited edition 7" single.

Tim O'Brien, who is the Associate Director of Jodrell Bank Observatory, has been involved in several projects featuring
sounds from space in the past, including collaborations with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Sigur Rós and New Order.

Media release: MeerKAT joins the ranks of the world's great scientific instruments through its First Light image
    http://www.ska.ac.za/releases/20160716.php

The MeerKAT First Light image of the sky, released today by Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, shows unambiguously that MeerKAT
is already the best radio telescope of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Array Release 1 (AR1) being celebrated today provides 16 of an eventual
64 dishes integrated into a working telescope array. It is the first significant scientific milestone achieved by MeerKAT, the radio telescope under
construction in the Karoo that will eventually be integrated into the Square Kilometre Array (SKA).
