    http://www.planetary.org/...ogs/emily-lakdawalla/2016/08111530-curiosity-update-sols-1373-1427.html
The last two months of the Curiosity mission have been spent on a southward drive toward the Murray buttes, topographic landmarks
of a relatively sand-free region that will allow Curiosity to finally cross the Bagnold dune field. In the last 50-plus sols,
Curiosity has covered several hundred meters of flat Murray mudstone that separates the Naukluft plateau from the buttes. The rover
is now poised to enter the buttes themselves, and the views are, as expected, spectacular.

ESA TGO's 2nd deep-space manoeuvre (DSM-2) to aim to Mars, ran as planned yesterday.
DSM-2 targets a delta-v of 17.7 m/second, and is planned to run for 155 seconds – just under three minutes.

New measurement with deuterium nucleus confirms proton radius puzzle is real
    http://phys.org/news/2016-08-deuterium-nucleus-proton-radius-puzzle.html
A large team made up of researchers from across the globe has repeated experiments conducted several years ago that showed a different radius
for a proton when it was orbited by a muon as opposed to an electron—a finding dubbed the proton radius puzzle—using a deuterium nucleus this
time and has found the same puzzle. In their paper published in the journal Science, the team describes the experiments they conducted, what
they found and offer a few possible ideas to help dispel the notion that the puzzle indicates that there may be some problems
    with the Standard Model.

The next Mars mission will likely be launched in March 2018, have a less elliptical
orbit around the red planet and could weigh seven times more than the first mission.

Mars Life? 20 Years Later, Debate Over Meteorite Continues
    http://www.space.com/33690-allen-hills-mars-meteorite-alien-life-20-years.html

Twenty years ago, NASA scientists and their colleagues announced they had spotted possible signs of Mars life in a meteorite.
The claim ignited a scientific controversy that lingers to this day.

HubbleSite - NewsCenter - Hubble Uncovers a Galaxy Pair Coming in from the Wilderness (08/11/2016) - The Full Story
    http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/2016/29/full/

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has uncovered two tiny dwarf galaxies that have wandered from a vast cosmic wilderness into a nearby "big
city" packed with galaxies. After being quiescent for billions of years, they are ready for partying by starting a firestorm of star birth.

"These Hubble images may be snapshots of what present-day dwarf galaxies may have been like at earlier epochs," said lead researcher Erik
Tollerud of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. "Studying these and other similar galaxies can provide further
clues to dwarf galaxy formation and evolution."

Direct imaging discovery of a Jovian exoplanet within a triple-star system | Science
    http://science.sciencemag.org/content/353/6300/673
Direct imaging allows for the detection and characterization of exoplanets via their thermal emission. We report the discovery via imaging of a young Jovian planet
in a triple-star system and characterize its atmospheric properties through near-infrared spectroscopy. The semimajor axis of the planet is closer relative to that
of its hierarchical triple-star system than for any known exoplanet within a stellar binary or triple, making HD 131399 dynamically unlike any other known system.
The location of HD 131399Ab on a wide orbit in a triple system demonstrates that massive planets may be found on long and possibly unstable orbits in multistar
systems. HD 131399Ab is one of the lowest mass (4 ± 1 Jupiter masses) and coldest (850 ± 50 kelvin) exoplanets to have been directly imaged.

Ten trillionths of your suntan comes from beyond our galaxy | EurekAlert! Science News
    http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2016-08/icfr-tto080916.php
In a new study to be published in the Astrophysical Journal on August 12th, astronomers have accurately measured
the light hitting the Earth from outside our galaxy over a very broad wavelength range.
The research looked at photons whose wavelengths vary from a fraction of a micron (damaging) to millimetres (harmless).
But radiation from outside the galaxy constitutes only ten trillionths of your suntan, so there is no immediate need for alarm.
