Search for Planet Nine turns up three mini-worlds
    http://www.geekwire.com/2016/search-planet-nine-turns-three-mini-planets/
    The list includes these mini-worlds:

2014 SR349, which is in the kind of extreme orbit that could hypothetically have been perturbed by Planet Nine.

2013 FT28, which isn’t quite as much in the sweet spot for Planet Nine action, dynamically speaking.

2014 FE72, which is said to be the first identified object from the faraway Oort Cloud with an orbit entirely beyond Neptune. The orbit
is stretched out far enough to take it more than 3,000 times farther away from the sun than Earth is. The astronomers say its orbital
path seems likely to be influenced by gravitational forces beyond the solar system, such as passing stars or the galactic tide.

Cassini: Mission to Saturn: Map of Titan with Labeled Features
    https://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/resources/7492/
This map of Titan shows the names of many (but not all) features on the Saturnian moon that have been approved by the IAU.
The map shows Cassini imaging coverage of Titan as of June 2015. This map was produced by the USGS Astrogeology Science Center
for the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature.

    https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2016/nasa-team-probes-peculiar-age-defying-star
For years, astronomers have puzzled over a massive star lodged deep in the Milky Way that shows conflicting signs of being extremely old and extremely young.
Researchers initially classified the star as elderly, perhaps a red supergiant. But a new study by a NASA-led team of researchers suggests that the object,
labeled IRAS 19312+1950, might be something quite different – a protostar, a star still in the making.

SETI Investigating Signal From Sun-Like Star 95 Light-Years Away — NOVA Next | PBS
    http://www.pbs.org/...a/next/space/seti-investigating-signal-from-sun-like-star-95-light-years-away/
Over the weekend, astronomers trained their telescopes a relatively close star, hoping
for more evidence of a curious signal heard over a year ago by Russian radio telescope operators.

First detected on May 15, 2015—but only just now reported to other SETI scientists—the 11 GHz signal
appears to have originated from HD 164595, a star with 0.99 solar masses and known to have at least
one planet orbiting it, a so-called “warm Neptune.”

Hunt for ninth planet reveals new extremely distant solar system objects
    http://phys.org/news/2016-08-ninth-planet-reveals-extremely-distant.html
In the race to discover a proposed ninth planet in our Solar System, Carnegie's Scott Sheppard and Chadwick Trujillo
of Northern Arizona University have observed several never-before-seen objects at extreme distances from the Sun in
our Solar System. Sheppard and Trujillo have now submitted their latest discoveries to the International Astronomical
Union's Minor Planet Center for official designations. A paper about the discoveries has also been accepted to
    The Astronomical Journal.

Featured Image: The Milky Way’s X
    http://aasnova.org/2016/08/29/featured-image-the-milky-ways-x/
This contrast-enhanced image of the Milky Way, observed by the Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE),
clearly reveals that the bulge of stars at the center of our galaxy is shaped like a large “X”. The boxy
nature of the Milky Way’s bulge was revealed by satellite image in 1995, but in recent years, star counts
along the line of sight toward the bulge have suggested that the bulge may be X-shaped.

'Strong signal' stirs interest in hunt for alien life
    http://phys.org/news/2016-08-strong-alien-life.html

A "strong signal" detected by a radio telescope in Russia that is scanning the heavens
for signs of extraterrestrial life has stirred interest among the scientific community.

"No one is claiming that this is the work of an extraterrestrial civilization, but it is certainly worth further study,"
said Paul Gilster, author of the Centauri Dreams website which covers peer-reviewed research on deep space exploration.
The signal from the direction of a HD164595, a star about 95 light-years from Earth.
The star is known to have at least one planet, and may have more.
The observation is being made public now, but was actually detected last year by the RATAN-600 radio telescope in
    Zelenchukskaya, Russia, he said.
Experts say it is far too early to know what the signal means or where, precisely,it came from.

    Milky Way Had a Blowout Bash 6 Million Years Ago2016-20 | www.cfa.harvard.edu/
    https://www.cfa.harvard.edu/news/2016-20
The center of the Milky Way galaxy is currently a quiet place where a supermassive black hole slumbers, only occasionally slurping small sips of hydrogen gas.
But it wasn't always this way. A new study shows that 6 million years ago, when the first human ancestors known as hominins walked the Earth, our galaxy's core
blazed forth furiously. The evidence for this active phase came from a search for the galaxy's missing mass.

Measurements show that the Milky Way galaxy weighs about 1-2 trillion times as much as our Sun. About five-sixths of that is in the form of invisible and mysterious
dark matter. The remaining one-sixth of our galaxy's heft, or 150-300 billion solar masses, is normal matter. However, if you count up all the stars, gas and dust
we can see, you only find about 65 billion solar masses. The rest of the normal matter - stuff made of neutrons, protons, and electrons - seems to be missing.
