A record of ancient tectonic stress on Mars / Mars Express / Space Science / Our Activities / ESA
    http://www.esa.int/...ivities/Space_Science/Mars_Express/A_record_of_ancient_tectonic_stress_on_Mars

Sets of ridges and troughs some 1000 km north of the giant Olympus Mons volcano contain a record of the intense tectonic stresses and strains experienced
in the Acheron Fossae region on Mars 3.7–3.9 billion years ago. This scene, captured by ESA’s Mars Express on 4 May, focuses on the western part of Acheron
Fossae, an isolated block of ancient terrain that covers an area about 800 km long and 280 km wide and stands up to 2 km higher than the surrounding plains.

Schiaparelli crash site in colour / ExoMars / Space Science / Our Activities / ESA
    http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Science/ExoMars/Schiaparelli_crash_site_in_colour

Composite of the ExoMars Schiaparelli module elements seen by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment
(HiRISE) on 1 November 2016. Both the main impact site (top) and the region with the parachute and rear heatshield (bottom left) are now
captured in the central portion of the HiRISE imaging swath that is imaged through three different filters, enabling a colour image to be
constructed. The front heatshield (bottom right) lies outside the central colour imaging swath.

The colours have been graded according to the specific region to best reveal the contrast of features against the martian background.

Supercomputer comes up with a profile of dark matter: Standard Model extension predicts properties of candidate particle
    http://phys.org/news/2016-11-supercomputer-profile-dark-standard-extension.html

In the search for the mysterious dark matter, physicists have used elaborate computer calculations to come up with an outline of the particles
of this unknown form of matter. To do this, the scientists extended the successful Standard Model of particle physics which allowed them, among
other things, to predict the mass of so-called axions, promising candidates for dark matter. The German-Hungarian team of researchers led by
Professor Zoltán Fodor of the University of Wuppertal, Eötvös University in Budapest and Forschungszentrum Jülich carried out its calculations
on Jülich's supercomputer JUQUEEN (BlueGene/Q) and presents its results in the journal Nature.

Close galactic encounter leaves 'nearly naked' supermassive black hole
    http://phys.org/news/2016-11-galactic-encounter-naked-supermassive-black.html

Astronomers using the super-sharp radio vision of the National Science Foundation's Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA)
have found the shredded remains of a galaxy that passed through a larger galaxy, leaving only the smaller galaxy's
nearly-naked supermassive black hole to emerge and speed away at more than 2,000 miles per second.

A triple protostar system formed via fragmentation of a gravitationally unstable disk
    http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v538/n7626/full/nature20094.html

Binary and multiple star systems are a frequent outcome of the star formation process, and as a result almost half of all stars with masses similar
to that of the Sun have at least one companion star. Theoretical studies indicate that there are two main pathways that can operate concurrently to
form binary/multiple star systems: large-scale fragmentation of turbulent gas cores and filaments, or smaller-scale fragmentation of a massive
protostellar disk due to gravitational instability. Observational evidence for turbulent fragmentation on scales of more than 1,000 astronomical
    units has recently emerged.

Astrophysicists conduct very high energy studies of a highly extended pulsar wind nebula
    http://phys.org/news/2016-11-astrophysicists-high-energy-highly-pulsar.html
Astrophysicists from Germany and France have recently performed very high energy studies of the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) designated HESS J1825−137.
The findings, presented in a paper published Oct. 27 on arXiv.org, provide new insights on the changing nature of this highly extended nebula.
