    JAYME: To je bohužel náročný dotaz, na který by měl odpovědět odborník (pokud tě to zajímá
    víc do hloubky, zkus napsat třeba na exoplanety.cz). Přítomnost kyslíku je sice slibným předpokladem,
    ale neznamená to, že tam musí být život. Je více procesů (jak píšeš "nudných"), kterými se může
    do atmosféry uvolňovat kyslík (UV záření mateřské hvězdy štěpí vodní molekuly, a vodík jako lehčí
    snadněji uniká do kosmického prostoru - obzvláště pokud je hvězda blízko, míra UV záření je vysoká,
    navíc doprovázena silnými proudy hv. částic). Dále některé oxidy těžkých kovů uvolňují kyslík při reakci
    s vodou, a to velice účinně (stačí k tomu zlomky procenta celkové plochy pevniny dané planety).

    Mně osobně na tom příjde zajímavá (a možná i slibnější) právě ta kombinace sekundárních faktorů -
    přítomnost vody/pevniny (plus složení atmosféry), případně vhodná teplota, protože hlavně ta
    definuje chemii a tím potažmo celou biologii...

    VIRGO: hele mam dotaz, Legrace Tyson rikal, ze pokud je nekde atmosferickej kyslik, musi tam bejt i jeho stalej zdroj, protoze kyslik by jinak z atmosfery zmizel (predpokladam, navazal se na ostatni prvky, zelezo a tak). no a me zajima, jaky jsou mozny zdroje toho kysliku? kdyz nekde najdeme planetu s kyslikovou atmosferou, je cas se radovat, ze je tam fotosynteza a tedy zivot, nebo jsou i jiny, nudnejsi moznosti?

    It’s cloudy with a chance of gemstones. A super-sized planet 1000 light years from Earth has clouds that may contain
    the building blocks of rubies and sapphires, according to the first exoplanet meteorology report.

    The planets in our solar system experience a wide variety of weather, from Jupiter’s famous Great Red Spot through
    Mars’s dust devils to Saturn’s hexagonal north polar storm. But planets around other stars are too distant for us to
    directly discern their short-term weather, such as changes in clouds or wind.

    Now, David Armstrong at the University of Warwick, UK, and colleagues scrutinised four years of data from the Kepler
    satellite, and noticed that the brightness of a planet called HAT-P-7b changed over time.

    “With this four-year timeline, you can really start to look in depth at these planets,” says Hannah Wakeford, who
    studies exoplanet atmospheres at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and was not involved in
    the work. “Our full understanding of these planets and the clouds in their atmospheres is just beginning.”

    NASA’s first mission to return a sample of an asteroid to Earth will be multitasking during its two-year outbound cruise
    to the asteroid Bennu. On Feb. 9-20, the OSIRIS-REx (Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security–
    Regolith Explorer) spacecraft will activate its onboard camera suite and commence a search for elusive “Trojan” asteroids.

    Rings around young star suggest planet formation in progress

    Rice University astronomers and their colleagues have for the first time mapped gases in three dark rings around
    a distant star. The rings mark spaces where planets are thought to have formed from dust and gas around the star.

    All the rings around HD 163296 are devoid of dust, and the international team of researchers led by Rice astronomer
    Andrea Isella is sure that planets, probably gas giants with masses comparable to Saturn, are responsible for
    clearing the outermost ones. But the inner ring has far more carbon monoxide than the other two, leading them to
    believe no planet exists there. That remains unexplained, he said.

    Low-mass companion found inside debris disc of a nearby star

    Astronomers have uncovered a new low-mass companion residing inside a massive debris disc surrounding a nearby star
    designated HD 206893. The discovery could provide new important clues on how low-mass stellar companions form and evolve.
    The findings were presented in a paper published Dec. 1 on the arXiv pre-print server.

    Located some 125 light years away, HD 206893 is an F5V star hosting a debris disc detected through its large infrared excess.
    It is about 24 percent more massive than the sun and its age is estimated to be within the range of 200 million to 2.1 billion
    years. Due to its proximity and the presence of a debris disk, HD 206893's environment is an excellent place for astronomers
    to look for new stars and planets.

    Gravitational-wave data show tentative signs of firewalls or other exotic physics.

    It was hailed as an elegant confirmation of Einstein’s general theory of relativity — but ironically the discovery of gravitational waves
    earlier this year could herald the first evidence that the theory breaks down at the edge of black holes. Physicists have analysed the publicly
    released data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), and claim to have found “echoes” of the waves that seem to
    contradict general relativity’s predictions.

    The echoes could yet disappear with more data. If they persist, the finding would be extraordinary. Physicists have predicted that Einstein’s
    hugely successful theory could break down in extreme scenarios, such as at the centre of black holes. The echoes would indicate the even more
    dramatic possibility that relativity fails at the black hole’s edge, far from its core.

    If the echoes go away, then general relativity will have withstood a test of its power — previously, it wasn’t clear that physicists would be
    able to test their non-standard predictions.
