Building a Better Heat Shield for a Mars Mission | Berkeley Lab
    http://newscenter.lbl.gov/2017/02/22/building-heat-shield-mars-mission/

The new flexible heat-shield system, called ADEPT (Adaptive Deployable Entry and Placement Technology), would be stowed inside
the spacecraft and deployed like an umbrella prior to atmospheric entry. Supported by an array of sturdy metallic struts,
the ADEPT system could also serve to steer the spacecraft during descent.

VIRGO: Eech, páteční chvilka dojetí... :)

obloze misto, kde supernova vzplanula. Sledovani pozustatku ostatne stale
pokracuje, je to opravdu vzrusujici pribeh.
Dekuji za mile prani i darek a take Vam preju hodne radosti z
astronomickych objevu, ktere jsou doslova na bezicim pasu cim dal tim
    casteji.

Howgh!! A dík za všechny ryby. :D

No a čím lepším bych mohl zakončit, než čerstvým lednovým Hubbleovým snímkem SN 1987A (dnes uveřejněným)...

The greatest danger asteroids pose to us is not from the impact | New Scientist
    https://www.newscientist.com/...612-the-greatest-danger-asteroids-pose-to-us-is-not-from-the-impact/

Wind kills. The most casualties from an asteroid impact won’t come from the impact itself. The wind, pressure and heat
caused by the crash are far more dangerous, no matter where the asteroid hits.

Clemens Rumpf at the University of Southampton, UK, and his colleagues have calculated the mortality risk, should an asteroid hit
a residential area. They considered asteroids that burn up completely, those that hit the ground, and those that strike in water.
Surprisingly, the airborne side effects were the ones that cost the most lives.

Inside NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland the James Webb Space Telescope team completed the environmental portion
of vibration testing and prepared for the acoustic test on the telescope. Engineers and technicians pushed the telescope (wrapped in a clean tent)
through a large set of insulated steel doors nearly a foot thick into the Acoustic Test Chamber, where the telescope will be exposed to the ear-
splitting noise (and resulting vibration) of launch. These photos show the telescope inside (top) and outside (bottom) the acoustics chamber.

    http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2017/sn1987a/

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Supernova 1987A (SN 1987A), a new package of material consisting of images,
time-lapse movies, an animation, and a printable three-dimensional model have been released. The remains of SN 1987A
are entering a new era, as explained in our press release.

The Dawn of a New Era for Supernova 1987a
    https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2017/the-dawn-of-a-new-era-for-supernova-1987a
Three decades ago, astronomers spotted one of the brightest exploding stars in more than 400 years. The titanic supernova, called
Supernova 1987A (SN 1987A), blazed with the power of 100 million suns for several months following its discovery on Feb. 23, 1987.

Since that first sighting, SN 1987A has continued to fascinate astronomers with its spectacular light show. Located in the nearby
Large Magellanic Cloud, it is the nearest supernova explosion observed in hundreds of years and the best opportunity yet for
astronomers to study the phases before, during, and after the death of a star.

such as in this scene, the bedrock is well exposed (except where covered by sand dunes).

he map is projected here at a scale of 25 centimeters per pixel. [The original image scale is 26.7
centimeters per pixel (with 1 x 1 binning); objects on the order of 80 centimeter across are resolved.] North is up.

The upstart asteroid who showed rings are for everybody | New Scientist
    https://www.newscientist.com/...cle/2121755-the-upstart-asteroid-who-showed-rings-are-for-everybody/

Adam Synergy: A new paper on Chariklo's Rings appeared on the astro ph arXiv just yesterday:

[1702.06356] Simulating the Smallest Ring World of Chariklo
    https://arxiv.org/abs/1702.06356

Their N-body simulations suggest that rings might typically occur on timescales of only
about 100 years, which is considerably shorter than the timescales suggested in previous studies.
