SpaceX is targeting launch of its eleventh Commercial Resupply Services mission (CRS-11) from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Florida on Saturday, June 3 at 5:07 p.m. EDT or 21:07 UTC (23:07 CEST)

The CRS-11 mission will be the first reflight of a Dragon spacecraft and will mark the 100th launch from historic LC-39A at Kennedy Space Center. Following stage separation, the first stage of Falcon 9 will attempt to land at SpaceX’s Landing Zone 1 (LZ-1) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.

PANAAK:

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) has done it again, detecting gravitational waves rippling away from a cosmic collision between a pair of black holes. Only this time, the pair met around 3 billion light-years away.

This is the third time the observatory has successfully measured such an event, but just when you think you've seen it all before, this collision comes with a literal twist – at least one of the black holes seems to be spinning in an unusual direction.

Hanford LIGO announcement set for Thursday

LIGO at Hanford and its twin observatory in Louisiana are set to make an announcement on Thursday.

While officials are not saying what’s up, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatories started their latest scientific run about six months ago.

Halos in Martian Sandstone
Pale zones called "halos" border bedrock fractures visible in this 2015 image from NASA's Curiosity Mars rover which has been darkened (a previously released image can be seen here). Measurements overlaid on the image offer a sense of scale for the size of these fractures. The rover team determined that the halos are rich in silica, a clue to the duration of wet environmental conditions long ago.

(The location is on the lower slope of Mars' Mount Sharp, along the rover's path between "Marias Pass" and "Bridger Basin." In this region, the rover has found fracture zones to be associated with rock compositions enriched in silica, relative to surrounding bedrock.)

Besides a lot of blowing dust and the occasional acacia tree, you might catch many sky wonders. Pictured in 2015 September, sky highlights include the central band of our Milky Way Galaxy, the Pleiades Star Cluster, Barnard's Loop, and both the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, to name just a few. Although most of these faded in the morning light, they were quickly replaced by a partial eclipse of the Sun.

Astronomers have watched as a massive, dying star was likely reborn as a black hole. It took the combined power of the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT), and NASA's Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes to go looking for remnants of the vanquished star, only to find that it disappeared out of sight. It went out with a whimper instead of a bang. The star, which was 25 times as massive as our sun, should have exploded in a very bright supernova. Instead, it fizzled out –– and then left behind a black hole.

Tak pravdepodobne jen nekldo zaspal u korekce. Podle CHMU.cz se pry vychyluji ty druzice uplne bezne, ale o kousek a doladuje se to datove na zemi. Takze pravdepodobne se jedna o upravu obezne drahy provedenou za pomoci trysek, jen nekdo v Darmstadtu zaspal svoji sluzbu a nestihl tak korekci vcas... :-)

"[…] We aim at offering a relatively natural solution, invoking only phenomena that have been previously observed, although perhaps in larger or more massive versions. We model the system using a large, ringed body whose transit produces the first dimming and a swarm of Trojan objects sharing its orbit that causes the second period of multiple dimmings. The resulting orbital period is T≈12 years, with a semi-major axis a≈6 au. In this context the recent observation of a minor dimming can be explained as a secondary eclipse produced by the passage of the planet behind the star. Our model allows us to make two straightforward predictions: we expect the passage of a new swarm of Trojans in front of the star starting during the early months of 2021, and a new transit of the main object during the first half of 2023."
