Thomas Tuchel has barely got his feet under the table at Chelsea, and the transfer talk is already flowing. Could Erling Haaland be the next big arrival at Stamford Bridge?

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol on Wednesday's Transfer Show:

"I think in the summer Chelsea will be looking to sign a striker and another centre-back because we know that Olivier Giroud and Thiago Silva are not getting any younger.

"When it comes to a striker, l think their main target is going to be Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund.

"We know how good he has been since he moved there and he has a release clause of 75 million euros, but that release clause is in the summer of 2022.

"Because of the pandemic, most clubs will not have money to spend in the summer, but of course we saw last summer that as far as Chelsea are concerned, they view that as an opportunity. Roman Abramovich is one of the richest men in the world, so Chelsea have the money to do the deal in the summer if they can convince Dortmund to sell and convince Haaland to come to Stamford Bridge.

"On the centre-back situation, one player l would be watching closely is David Alaba. He will be leaving Bayern Munich in the summer. Lots of clubs want him on a free transfer. Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool have all been mentioned but Chelsea are definitely in the mix. Some of the agents who were involved in bringing Tuchel to Stamford Bridge are also involved with Alaba – although reporters in Spain are convinced he is going to Real Madrid."

David Moyes has confirmed West Ham are considering turning Said Benrahma's loan from Brentford into a permanent deal in this window - but will sign him permanently in the summer otherwise.

"We've got a deal that we will take on Said anyway, so whether we do it now or we do it later in the year, it was only to do with a slight medical issue which we had to solve," he explained as to the winger's signing as a loan deal on Transfer Deadline Day in october.

"So overall, we will get Said done some time. It's not done now it'll be done later. No doubt about that. We might need it; we might need room for loans but at the moment I can't give you any news of anything."

Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth on The Transfer Show on Friday:

"Re-wind to this time last year and Tottenham signed Gedson Fernandes from Benfica on an 18-month loan and they had an option to buy this summer for £40m.

“It hasn’t worked out for him, though. He hasn’t started a Premier League game for Tottenham, and we are now told Torino are in talks with Benfica about taking him on loan for the remainder of the season.

“It is quite complex as to how this would work as Spurs would have to agree with Benfica to cut that loan short. So, he’d go from Tottenham back to Benfica and then Benfica would then speak to Torino. That is how the process would have to work.

“Gedson Fernandes, however, has come to the Premier League and you’d expect him to be on good wages, wages that probably Torino couldn’t afford.

“And because Tottenham are open to cutting short that loan, they were expecting to pay the wages for the 18 months. Benfica were also expecting them to pay those wages for the 18 months, so if Torino can’t fulfil the wage the midfielder’s on at the moment, Benfica would probably expect Spurs to make up that difference, unless he takes a pay cut."

Former Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos is expected to return to Greece and sign with Olympiakos, according to Sky in Italy.

As we have reported, Genoa and Lazio were linked with a move for the defender, who is a free agent, but a deal to take him to Serie A looks unlikely.

Edin Dzeko could leave Roma in the final days of the January window after a falling-out with Paulo Fonseca, Corriere dello Sport and multiple outlets reported over the weekend. The striker, who had a cold relationship with the coach to being week, did not appreciate entering the Coppa Italia tilt against Spezia only at the beginning of the extra time and let the gaffer know it, which led to heated argument the next day in front of the rest of the locker room. Fonseca excluded him from the squad list for the Serie A match versus the same opponent and stripped him of the captaincy, with the tacit approval by the management.

The front office quickly tried to put together a deal to remedy the situation through the transfer market, proposing a swap of loans to Inter between Edin Dzeko and Christian Eriksen, Gazzetta dello Sport informed. However, the Nerazzurri replied that they were not interested and that they were not in position to make a move, even though they have long coveted the Bosnian international to fill out their front-line and the two players have matching salaries.

While the two sides will try to reconcile over the next few days, the club will look for other possible destinations, but Dzeko only want to transfer to top clubs and preferably stay in Serie A, however it will be hard to find a satisfying solution due to his age and wages (€7.5M net per year).
