We wanted to post some more... - Alt National Park Servicehttps://www.facebook.com/share/18wAUyJpoH/The Trump administration’s Justice Department has intervened in litigation involving Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, asking a court to dismiss a pollution lawsuit against the company.
According to court filings, the DOJ argued that xAI’s infrastructure is important to America’s national security, economic security, and even military operations. Basically the federal government is effectively arguing that this private company’s AI systems are so strategically important that legal challenges against its operations could harm the United States.
The underlying lawsuit alleges that xAI has been operating dozens of methane gas turbines without proper permits to power its massive AI infrastructure. Local groups and environmental advocates argue the emissions are having significant impacts on surrounding communities.
For years, Americans have been told that no company is above the law. Yet we are now seeing the federal government step into court on behalf of one of the world’s wealthiest individuals and his AI company arguing that its operations are simply too important to disrupt.
Perhaps AI truly is becoming critical infrastructure. But if that’s the case, Americans deserve an open conversation about what that means.
What’s really happening here, though, is that the federal government is stepping in to help a political supporter who has donated enormous sums of money to MAGA candidates and Republican causes. Elon Musk’s political contributions now exceed $350 million.
