Europe agrees biggest green stimulus the world has ever seen −
    https://evobsession.com/europe-agrees-biggest-green-stimulus-the-world-has-ever-seen/amp/

EU lawmakers this morning agreed a €672 billion recovery fund for the bloc’s economy, 37% of which must be invested in projects that support climate objectives. Transport & Environment (T&E) welcomed the green stimulus for the Covid-hit continent but criticized the blanket support for ‘alternative fuels’ such as biofuels and gas which can be counted as climate spending. The green spending plan is completely silent on electric cars, even though the EU’s own green finance law says only zero-emissions vehicles are sustainable.

Researchers provide the first-ever case definition for fresh-water skin disease in bottlenose dolphins tied to climate change. The study has major implications for the current outbreak in Australia, which is impacting the rare and threatened Burrunan dolphin in southeast Australia, and could provide professionals with the information needed to diagnose and treat affected animals.

New podcasts about our warming planet are popping up right and left, expanding an already overwhelming list of programs. Don’t believe us? Just search “climate change podcasts” on Spotify and start scrolling. But you’re probably craving a palate cleanser once you’ve worked through the day’s news of shrinking sea ice, expanding deserts, and politicians who refuse to face reality — a climate podcast that won’t incite further rage and terror, but will make you feel like something can be done to actually solve the problem.

2020 was the year climate podcasts went mainstream. Here are our favorites.

“Climate change, droughts, population growth, and pollution are likely to make water scarcity issues and pricing a hot topic for years to come,” RBC Capital Markets managing director and analyst Deane Dray told Bloomberg. “We are definitely going to watch how this new water futures contract develops.”

Proponents argue the new market will clear up some of the uncertainty around water prices for farmers and municipalities, helping them budget for the resource. But some experts say treating water as a tradable commodity puts a basic human right into the hands of financial institutions and investors, a dangerous arrangement as climate change alters precipitation patterns and increases water scarcity.

“What this represents is a cynical attempt at setting up what’s almost like a betting casino so some people can make money from others suffering,” Basav Sen, climate justice project director at the Institute for Policy Studies, told Earther. “My first reaction when I saw this was horror, but we’ve also seen this coming for quite some time.”

O to usiluje XR. (Imho žádná škoda, neřešil bys to stejně).

This shows the Biden team is really going to follow through on the bold climate commitments they put forward,” says Leah Stokes, a climate-policy researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara. It’s a massive political shift, she says, “and it puts the country on track to make climate change the center of our economic policy.”

Regan spent more than nine years working in the EPA’s air quality programme under former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and another eight years working at the Environmental Defense Fund, an environmental advocacy group based in New York. For the past four, he has led North Carolina’s Department of Environmental Quality, where he earned the support of many environmentalists by standing up to chemical and energy companies.
