Zamrzlý Texas rozděluje Ameriku. Zelená energie nás zklamala, říkají někteří - iDNES.cz
    https://www.idnes.cz/...-americke-texas-pocasi-obnovitelne-energie.A210224_123652_eko-zahranicni_kou

„Pokud bychom přistoupili na dohodu Green Deal, byla by to pro USA smrt,” uvedl pro Fox News guvernér Texasu Greg Abbott. Reagoval tak na navrhovaný plán, podle něhož by měl Texas přejít právě na zelenou energii. „Ukázalo se nyní, že fosilní paliva prostě stále potřebujeme. Větrná a sluneční energie evidentně selhala,” dodává.

    ...

První komerční tanker v historii si v únoru prorazil cestu z Číny skrz arktické ledy až do severozápadního Ruska. Podařilo se mu tak něco, co by bylo dříve bez neblahých dopadů globálního oteplování zcela nemožné, vysvětlují pro Forbes britští klimatologové.

Seth Itzkan - Agriculture: An Invention of Desperation
    https://m.facebook.com/groups/Soil4Climate/permalink/2938782593060142/

Agriculture was as invention of desperation resulting from the decimation of megafauna. It was a retreat, not an advance. No one would tear up a prairie with stone tools to grow and eat maize if 2 to 6 ton aurochs, giraffe, and mastodon were still roaming on it. The combined beginning of both soil death and global warming was proceeded by the hunting to extinction of the largest grazing animals that co-evolved with carbon-rich grasslands. Soil restoration to the degree that it can heal the climate, will happen when cows and other livestock are fully integrated as allies in the effort - where they are managed as proxies for the prodigious herds of grazing animals that for tens of millions of years dominated life on the landed surface of the earth.

We are once again in an era of desperation. This time, however, conditions require us to restore the megafauna impact on soil for the sake of both protein and climate. To do this, we need a new invention. Fortunately, we have it. Holistic Management. Agriculture can continue for vegetables and some grains, but, the grain-based model of ag is going to have to profoundly change. Large parts of the world that are today in grain agriculture, will, in fact, have to be returned to prairie with grazing. Almost the entire US midwest is an example. In addition, large parts of the world that were once grasslands but are now so decimated they're called "deserts," will need to be restored ("re-greened"). Examples of this include the Sahara and the Mojave "deserts." This is all possible. It begins when we acknowledge the prospects for a carbon-negative and verdant future - one that is rich in soil, grasses, and ruminants.

Polish Citizens Are Transforming Europe’s Biggest Coal Region
    https://www.forbes.com/...ish-citizens-are-transforming-europes-biggest-coal-region/?sh=2039c0774f69

The Polish city of Rybnik stands at the heart of the largest coal-producing area of the EU: Silesia. With 83,000 people working directly in mines and an additional 230,000 people working in the sector, about 10% of the Silesian population is working in companies or other entities connected to the mining industry. Now citizens are showing the ability to power a new economic model.

2021 Combating ecosystem collapse from the tropics to the Antarctic
    https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gcb.15539

Globally, collapse of ecosystems—potentially irreversible change to ecosystem structure, composition and function—imperils biodiversity, human health and well‐being. We examine the current state and recent trajectories of 19 ecosystems, spanning 58° of latitude across 7.7 M km2, from Australia's coral reefs to terrestrial Antarctica. Pressures from global climate change and regional human impacts, occurring as chronic ‘presses’ and/or acute ‘pulses’, drive ecosystem collapse. Ecosystem responses to 5–17 pressures were categorised as four collapse profiles—abrupt, smooth, stepped and fluctuating. The manifestation of widespread ecosystem collapse is a stark warning of the necessity to take action. We present a three‐step assessment and management framework (3As Pathway Awareness, Anticipation and Action) to aid strategic and effective mitigation to alleviate further degradation to help secure our future.

The Untold Story Of Grasses | William Bond
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAoVZoZpqro

The story of the underdogs that took out their forest adversaries with powerful allies – fire and the great herds. Grasses created an open sunlit world, rich in plants and animals, including those that nurture and feed us and sustain our cities. Now all are threatened by a trillion trees.

Most people don’t think about grass and dismiss ancient grasslands as mere empty space or degraded forests. The open sunlit habitats of half the world have been further neglected in the current tide of media promoting forests and tree planting as a quick fix for climate change.

But grassy biomes have been carving a space in forests for millions of years. They created an alternative sunlit world, the inverse of forests – fire-loving and friendly to herds of herbivores. Ancient old-growth grasslands still exist today. Many are extraordinarily rich in plants and animals, which are restricted to their open, sunlit, grassy habitat. Grasslands have provided the world’s major seed crops, staple food for billions of people. Grassland animals were key to the development of our civilizations, providing transport, food and fiber.

Global plans to plant billions of trees in vast areas could see the collapse of grasslands in the next decade. Our story was motivated by our concern for this impending disaster. This video gives voice to the sunlit, grassy world, calling for wisdom and understanding rather than policies driven by panic and ignorance.

Ancient relic points to a turning point in Earth's history 42,000 years ago
    https://phys.org/news/2021-02-ancient-relic-earth-history-years.html
"Earth's magnetic field dropped to only 0-6 percent strength during the Adams Event," says Prof. Turney.
"We essentially had no magnetic field at all—our cosmic radiation shield was totally gone."

While the magnetic poles often wander, some scientists are concerned about the current rapid movement of the north magnetic pole across the Northern Hemisphere.

"This speed—alongside the weakening of Earth's magnetic field by around nine percent in the past 170 years—could indicate an upcoming reversal," says Prof. Cooper.

"If a similar event happened today, the consequences would be huge for modern society. Incoming cosmic radiation would destroy our electric power grids and satellite networks."

Prof. Turney says the human-induced climate crisis is catastrophic enough without throwing major solar changes or a pole reversal in the mix.

"Our atmosphere is already filled with carbon at levels never seen by humanity before," he says. "A magnetic pole reversal or extreme change in Sun activity would be unprecedented climate change accelerants.

"We urgently need to get carbon emissions down before such a random event happens again."
