Home is home to the world's oldest doors still in use—a pair of monumental bronze doors cast around 115 AD during Emperor Hadrian’s grand reconstruction.

These ancient doors, each an impressive seven and a half feet wide and twenty-five feet high, stand as a testament to Roman engineering. Crafted entirely from solid bronze, they are so precisely balanced that a single person can effortlessly push or pull them open, even after nearly two millennia.

Sarcophagus with the legend of Achilles, found from Tyre, Lebanon.
    Marble
    Roman period, 2nd c. AD
One of the final passages from the "Iliad" by the ancient Greek poet, Homer, is depicted on this Sarcophagus at the Beirut National Museum.
The Achilles Sarcophagus is a beautiful work of art, based on the concluding book of Homer's Iliad. On the front side, we can see the dead body of Hector, which Achilles has dragged behind his chariot, and the ransom that king Priam has brought. The king of Troy, Priam, is kneeling before Achilles, the killer of his son. ... Priam begs Achilles to give him the body of Hector.

The Naha Prefectural Museum in Okinawa, designed by Ishimoto and Niki Architects in 2007, exemplifies a blend of modern and traditional Okinawan architectural elements. The museum’s design incorporates robust concrete forms, characteristic of brutalist architecture, while integrating local materials and techniques. The structure features large, overhanging eaves and courtyards that provide shade and natural ventilation, reflecting the subtropical climate of Okinawa. This thoughtful design creates a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetic appeal, offering visitors a unique experience that celebrates both contemporary design and regional heritage.
