A Feb 2001 earthquake (6.8 magnitude), located nearly 50km below the surface of the Earth moved the ground for more than 30s. A sand-tracing pendulum located Washington state produced interesting patterns. The smooth curves are what one normally sees when someone sets the pendulum in motion. The seismic activity is responsible for the rose pattern in the middle.
