Single shots like this require planning. The first step is to realize that such an amazing triple-alignment actually takes place. The second step is to find the best location to photograph it. But it was the third step: being there at exactly the right time -- and when the sky was clear -- that was the hardest. Five times over six years the photographer tried and found bad weather. Finally, just ten days ago, the weather was perfect, and a photographic dream was realized. Taken in Piemonte, Italy, the cathedral in the foreground is the Basilica of Superga, the mountain in the middle is Monviso, and, well, you know which moon is in the background. Here, even though the setting Moon was captured in a crescent phase, the exposure was long enough for doubly reflected Earthlight, called the da Vinci glow, to illuminate the entire top of the Moon.

Kosmický dalekohled Jamese Webba pořídil nový a doslova zářivý portrét planety Uran, na kterém můžeme vidět jinak obecně skryté prstence tohoto ledového obra. Webb zachytil dynamický svět s prstenci, měsíci, bouřemi a dalšími atmosférickými prvky, a to včetně sezonní polární čepičky.Díky své mimořádné citlivosti Webb zachytil Uranův matný vnitřní a vnější prstenec, včetně „nepolapitelného“ prstence Zeta – extrémně slabého a rozptýleného prstence nejblíže planetě.

This building in Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey is an excellent example of architectural styles stratification over the centuries.

It shows three distinct periods:

- Roman Byzantine Empire (bottom),
- Ottoman Empire (middle),
- Republic (three upper floors)

Mt. Tateyama rises 3,015 meters in Japan’s Hida Mountains and is considered one of the country’s Three Holy Mountains.

The Hida Mountains receive as much as 38 meters of snow a year. Piled continuously, that would be snow nearly half as high as the Statue of Liberty.

Amazingly, there is a highway, Route 6, which begins in the coastal city of Toyama, approaches the western flank of Mt. Tateyama and reach a specific point.

In Japan this particular stretch of highway is known as yuki-no-otani, or Snow Canyon.

Once the private residence of a villainous shogun, Kinkaku-ji — "the Temple of the Golden Pavilion" — was converted into a Zen Buddhist temple by his son.
That was 600 years ago. It was burned down by a monk in the 1950s and rebuilt beam for beam.

The Choluteca Bridge in Honduras was built with such design strength that it could withstand the worst of hurricanes. When Hurricane Mitch came in 1998, it dumped 75 inches of rain in less than four days and destroyed 150 Honduran bridges, but not the Choluteca Bridge.

While the bridge itself was in near perfect condition, a wider view revealed that the roads on either end of the bridge had completely vanished, leaving no visible trace of their prior existence. Of even greater significance, however, was the fact that during the massive flooding caused by the hurricane, the several hundred feet wide Choluteca River had carved itself a new channel and no longer flowed beneath the bridge at all; the bridge now spanned dry ground.
