Bin Laden 'surrounded'

A BRITISH Sunday newspaper is claiming Osama bin Laden has been found and is surrounded by US special forces in an area of land bordering north-west Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Sunday Express, known for its sometimes colourful scoops, claims the al-Qaeda leader has been "sighted" for the first time since 2001 and is being monitored by satellite.

The paper claims he is in a mountainous area to the north of the Pakistani city of Quetta. The region is said to be peopled with bin Laden supporters and the terrorist leader is estimated to also have 50 of his fanatical bodyguards with him.

The claim is attributed to "a well-placed intelligence source" in Washington, who is quoted as saying: "He (bin Laden) is boxed in."

The paper says the hostile terrain makes an all-out conventional military assault impossible. The plan to capture him would depend on a "grab-him-and-go" style operation.

"US helicopters already sited on the Afghanistan border will swoop in to extricate him," the newspaper says. It claims bin Laden and his men "sleep in caves or out in the open. The area is swept by fierce snow storms howling down from the 10,000ft-high mountain peaks. Donkeys are the only transport."

The special forces are "absolutely confident" there is no escape for bin Laden, and are awaiting the order to go in and get him.

"The timing of that order will ultimately depend on President Bush," the paper says. "Capturing bin Laden will certainly be a huge help for him as he gets ready for the election."

The article says bin Laden's movements are monitored by a National Security Agency satellite.

Israeli suspected of selling nukes to India and Pakistan

WASHINGTON - An Israeli businessman accused of being a middleman in the nuclear black market worked to supply not only Pakistan but also its arch-rival India, court records indicate.
South Africa-based Asher Karni faces felony charges of exporting nuclear bomb triggers to Pakistan. But court files in the case also include e-mail exchanges between Karni and an Indian businessman who was trying secretly to buy material for two Indian rocket factories.

"Be careful to avoid any reference to the customer name," warned one message from Karni's Indian contact, Raghavendra "Ragu" Rao of Foretek Marketing (Pvt.) Ltd.

The messages offer a rare glimpse into such dealings. Federal prosecutors filed them in court as part of their attempts to persuade a judge to keep Karni behind bars before his trial.

What, actually, is the difference between the two front-runners? Well, both men attended Yale University and were members of the elite and secretive Skull and Bones Club.

Perhaps the club is no more than a closed arena for silly ritual. But it's odd that, apart from confirming that they remain members, neither man is willing to discuss the practices or purposes of the outfit.

The American investigative journalist Sam Smith suggested this week that Skull and Bones is "infantile, elitist, misogynist, anti-democratic and secret," and that its purpose is "the mutual support and protection of its members as they make their way into the upper ranks of American society."

Japan signs huge Iranian oil deal

Japan has signed an estimated $2bn deal to exploit Iran's Azadegan oil field, one of the largest in the Middle East.

Japan will have full development rights to the southern part of Azadegan, which has estimated reserves of 26bn barrels.

Japan depends on imports for almost all its energy needs and wants to diversify its supplies amid concerns about existing oil sources in the Gulf.

The agreement, under discussion for three years, had been delayed by US concerns about Iran's nuclear plans.

The US State Department spokesman, Richard Boucher, said he was "disappointed" that the deal had been completed.

The project is one of the largest Iran has signed with a foreign country since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Čtyři práškovací letadla kroužila nad poli blízko Beer Sheva v jižním Izraeli, kde šejk Salih Abu Darim a jeho kmen pěstovali obilí pro sebe a pro své stádo ovcí. Koncentrovaný práškový herbicid v příštích týdnech zahubil vše, co na poli rostlo. Bylo to potřetí v posledních dvou letech, kdy izraelská vláda zničila Arabům úrodu tímto způsobem.

A není to jediný způsob. V minulém roce zničily izraelské buldozery dva tisíce beduínských obydlí, nejméně tři kostely - a dalších deset tisíc konstrukcí a staveb je v plánu.

Izrael totiž začal nevyhlášenou válku vůči zhruba 70 tisícům beduínů usazených ve 45 komunitách na území, které Izrael hodlá použít pro stavbu nových osad. Snaží se je vypudit z jejich půdy do státních rezervací.

Pokud činil totéž Palestincům, tvrdili nám, že to bylo odvetné opatření za jejich teroristické akce. V případě beduínů ovšem tento argument použít nelze. A tak se to provádí mlčky a bez argumentů.

Nejen buldozerování domů, zabavování majetku, bránění v pohybu, přepady, vraždy, ale i ničení úrody jsou na seznamu zločinné izraelské vlády, která se nezastaví před ničím.

A svět mlčí. Právě v těchto dnech se koná v Bruselu konference o antisemitismu, kde sionisté opět rozjedou starou písničku o vzrůstající vlně antisemitismu, a Západ se bude opět jen bránit a omlouvat a přijímat další zákony trestající každého, kdo se nějakým způsobem o Izrael jen otře.

As fate would have it, Daniel C. Lewin, a 31-year-old Israeli-American, was seated on American Airlines Flight 11 between hijackers Mohammed Atta and Abdulaziz Alomari in the row in front of him, and hijacker Satam al-Suqami in the row behind him.

A secret Federal Aviation Administration executive summary, first uncovered by WorldNetDaily, says that al-Suqami, who would have been sitting directly behind Lewin in seat 10B, shot and killed Lewin with a single bullet.

The FAA maintains the high-level report was a mistaken first draft and that Lewin was more than likely stabbed, not shot, along with American Airlines crew members on Flight 11. (Box cutters were allowed that day through airline security, which the FAA regulated, but not guns.)

But a childhood friend who served with Lewin in the Israel Defense Force says only a bullet would have stopped Lewin.

"He'd be more than a match for those skinny little (expletive)," said Brad Rephen, a New York lawyer who grew up with Lewin in Jerusalem. "With his training, he would have killed them with his bare hands."

WASHINGTON -- In another tragic irony of Sept. 11, three of the five Islamic hijackers aboard American Airlines Flight 11 were seated next to an elite Israeli commando. And it may just have gotten that Jewish passenger killed before all the others.

In fact, his friends and associates are now sure of it, after reading a secret government memo naming Israeli-American Daniel C. Lewin as a gunshot victim on the flight.

WorldNetDaily published the Federal Aviation Administration memo in an exclusive article Wednesday. The FAA, while confirming the document is authentic, claims the report of Lewin's shooting, written several hours after the Sept. 11 hijackings, was premature and inaccurate.

His friends don't buy it.

"Danny was an officer in a secret unit of the Israeli army called 'sayeret matkal,'" said Yehuda Schwartzberg, a childhood friend from Jerusalem. "My guess is that he did something in some way to stand up against the hijackers, and was executed because of it."

On the eve of the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) opening hearing on the construction of the fence/wall by Israel, Amnesty International calls on the Israeli authorities to immediately dismantle the sections already built inside the West Bank and halt the construction of the fence/wall and related infrastructure inside the Occupied Territories.

The Israeli government objects to the ICJ hearing the case, claiming that the issue is "political".

"The construction by Israel of the fence/wall inside the Occupied Territories violates international law and is contributing to grave human rights violations. Therefore, it is appropriate that a court of law examines this matter," said Amnesty International.

On 8 December 2003 the United Nations General Assembly, exercising its power under Article 96 of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), passed a resolution requesting the ICJ to issue an Advisory Opinion on the legal consequences of the construction by Israel of the fence/wall inside the Occupied Territories.

The Israeli authorities claim that the fence/wall is "a defensive measure, designed to block the passage of terrorists, weapons and explosives into the State of Israel".

However, most of the fence/wall is not being built on the Green Line between Israel and the West Bank. Close to 90% of it is on Palestinian land inside the West Bank, encircling Palestinian towns and villages and cutting off communities and families from each other. It separates farmers from their land and cuts off Palestinians from their places of work, schools, health care facilities and other essential services.

Israel violates international law and defies the United Nations. Had they built the wall on their own land, few would have complained. By running the wall deep into Palestinian territory, Israel made it clear that this was a land grab, an attempt to redraw the borders in concrete ahead of any peace deal.
