Giant blast believed to be meteor

A meteor entering Earth's atmosphere is the most likely explanation for a huge bang and flash of light that woke people all over Wairoa.

People reported what sounded like an explosion at 3.40am yesterday from Kotemaori, south of Wairoa, to Mahia Peninsula in the north and Lake Waikaremoana inland.

Sergeant Chris Flood said he slept through the bang but many people had been woken by it.

"The reports have come in from places probably 75 kilometres apart.

"It must have been one hell of an explosion."

Those who had been awake said they had seen light filling the sky, much brighter than lightning.

"It lit up everything, they said," Mr Flood said.

There had been no reports of damage.

A meteor seemed the most probable cause.

A Mahia resident said she had been woken by a big thud, followed by two or three smaller ones.

"I thought someone had hit our shed so I went and had a look but there was nothing there," she said.

The senior astronomer at the Carter Observatory in Wellington, Brian Carter, said he had received no reports of a meteor in the region.

June had been predicted to be a quiet month for meteor showers in New Zealand, but it was still possible for a single meteor to come in.

"It must have been something quite impressive," Mr Carter said.

The meteor could have exploded in the atmosphere, in which case none of it – or only very small parts of it – would have hit the ground.

Observatory astronomer Kay Leather said a meteor, which may be no larger than fist size, would cause a loud explosion and a light as bright as daylight.

The duty seismologist at the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences, Peter McGinty, said the institute had a station at Nuhaka, north of Wairoa, but it had recorded no tremors at that time.

That indicated that the meteor – assuming it was a meteor – must have burnt up in the atmosphere.

Despite Congressional action cutting funding, and the resignation of the program’s controversial director, retired admiral John Poindexter, DARPA’s TIA program is alive and well and prying into the personal business of Americans 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“When Congress cut the funding, the Pentagon – with administration approval – simply moved the program into a ‘black bag’ account,” says a security consultant who worked on the DARPA project. “Black bag programs don’t require Congressional approval and are exempt from traditional oversight.”

DARPA also hired private contractors to fill many of the roles in the program, which helped evade detection by Congressional auditors. Using a private security firm like Cantwell, instead of the Federal Protective Service, helped keep TIA off the radar screen.

Informace lze získat i mučením, uvedli loni právníci Pentagonu

NEW YORK, 9. června 2004 | 07:36 Právníci ministerstva obrany USA došli loni k závěru, že prezident George W. Bush se nemusí řídit americkými zákony nebo mezinárodními úmluvami zakazujícími mučení vězňů a že americké agenty, kteří se na pokyn vlády mučení zajatců dopustí, nemůže stíhat ministerstvo spravedlnosti. Takový je závěr tajné zprávy, kterou Pentagon vypracoval v březnu 2003 a o níž včera napsal list The Wall Street Journal.

Dokument, který má list k dispozici, konstatuje, že se USA nemusejí řídit zákony a smlouvami zakazujícími mučení, pokud to bude v zájmu bezpečnosti země. Právníci totiž ve zprávě došli k závěru, že není nic důležitějšího než "získání informací, jež jsou kriticky důležité pro ochranu nesčetných tisíců amerických občanů".

Právníci uvádějí, že Bush jako vrchní velitel ozbrojených sil může souhlasit s fyzickým i psychickým nátlakem na vyšetřované a také s jejich mučením. Podle listu není jasné, zda Bush posudek někdy četl.

Posudek si Pentagon dal vypracovat poté, co koncem roku 2002 obdržel stížnost ze zajateckého tábora pro údajné teroristy na Guatánamu. Jeho velitelé tvrdili, že s použitím standardních výslechových metod nedokážou získat od zajatců dostatek informací.

Vyšetřovatelé z Guantánama loni školili zpravodajské týmy v Iráku. V tamní věznici Abú Ghraíb byly nedávno odhaleny případy ponižování a mučení vězňů.

Rumsfeld Says 'War on Terror' Just Beginning



WEST POINT, New York (Reuters) - The United States' declared war on terror is closer to the beginning than the end, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld told graduates of the U.S. Military Academy on Saturday.


Rumsfeld told the 2004 graduating class of 935 cadets that in the three years since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America, the U.S.-led coalition had "overthrown two vicious regimes and liberated 50 million people, disrupted terrorist cells across the globe and thwarted many terrorist attacks."

"Yet despite our successes, we are closer to the beginning of this struggle with global insurgency than to its end," he said.

Rumsfeld addressed the graduates, who wore full dress uniforms at West Point's Michie Stadium football field, before heading back for Washington for the dedication of the World War II Memorial.

Rumsfeld said the world "has changed dramatically" since the Sept. 11 attacks when hijackers flew commercial airplanes into buildings in New York and Washington, killing nearly 3,000.

He said on the latest front, in Iraq (news - web sites) where the Bush administration is facing continued fighting that is undermining efforts to end the U.S. occupation, "We are facing a test of wills, with an enemy that seeks to derail the Iraqi people's path to self-governance."

"The extremists know the rise of a free, self-governing Iraq, respectful of all religions - would deal the terrorists a decisive blow," Rumsfeld said. "Its success depends on encouraging friends and allies with whom we are so interdependent to not be terrorized by threats or isolated by fear."

Tálibán chtěl kdysi vydat Usámu

Tálibánský režim v Afghánistánu byl ochoten ještě v roce 2001 vydat Spojeným státům Usámu bin Ládina. S odvoláním na afghánskoamerického obchodníka Kábira Mohabbata to uvedla německá televize ZDF.

BERLÍN - Tálibán v letech 1999-2001 několikrát dával na srozuměnou, že z jeho strany nestojí vypovězení šéfa teroristické sítě al-Kajdá nic v cestě.

"Můžete ho mít, jakmile budou Američané připraveni. Řekněte nám zemi a my ho vydáme," sdělil tálibánský ministr zahraničí Ahmad Mutavákil Mohabbatovi, který tehdy vystupoval jako prostředník.

V listopadu 2000 mělo dokonce dojít k tajnému setkání zástupců Tálibánu a USA ve Frankfurtu nad Mohanem. Podle Mohabatta Afghánci přijeli na schůzku v jednom z frankfurtských hotelů s řadou nabídek. Mimo jiné byli připraveni dopravit bin Ládina do třetí země, aby mohl být postaven před Mezinárodní soudní dvůr v Haagu.

Na americkém velvyslanectví v Pákistánu měly poté obě strany vyjednávat o místě a době předání Usámy. Navzdory ochotě Tálibánu se pak až do 11. září 2001 další kolo rozhovorů už nekonalo.

"Až po teroristických útocích na New York a Washington se vyjednavači setkali u jednoho stolu, tentokrát v pákistánské Kvétě," uvedla ZDF. Podle Mohabatta Spojené státy trvaly na bin Ládinově vydání do 24 hodin, což Tálibán nebyl schopen technicky v žádném případě zvládnout.

Němec Elmar Brok, předseda zahraničního a bezpečnostněpolitického výboru Evropského parlamentu, potvrdil ZDF Mohabbatovo tvrzení.

Brok působil jako zprostředkovatel mezi USA a Mohabbatem.

Skupina Bilderberg opět v záři reflektorů aneb Hádej, kdo přijde na večeři?

V Itálii v hotelu Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees se za přísných bezpečnostních opatření koná padesátá schůzka skupiny Bilderberg. Nic z toho, o čem se jedná, se nedostane ven. Několik reportérů se sice v minulosti schůzky zúčastnilo, ale muselo podepsat slib mlčenlivosti. Skupina dokonce nemá ani vlastní webovou stránku.

Seznam pozvaných se každým rokem mění a není jasné, kdo jej sestavuje. Většinou jde o bohaté průmyslníky, majitele obřích firem, bank, přední politiky a aristokraty. Mezi kmenové hosty patří např. Henry Kissinger nebo Rockefeller. Tento rok se zúčastnila i paní Gatesová, manželka Billa Gatese. Gates sám nedorazil, protože jednak je vytížen zalepováním bezpečnostních děr ve svém posledním systému, a jednak mu odmítli servírovat jeho oblíbeny hamburger s hranolky a colou.

Existuje řada konspiračních teorií o této velmi viditelné a okázalé schůzce mocných. Mnoho lidí se domnívá, že tato skupina představuje skutečné vládce světa, a že se zde kují plány o dalším jeho běhu. Tato domněnka jistě má racionální jádro. Není pochyb o tom, že většina zúčastněných je nesmírně mocná a bohatá. Už z titulu svého bohatství jsou jistě schopni zasahovat do běhu světa.

Nicméně se domnívám, že Bilderberg je jen taková vějička pro veřejnost, okázalé divadlo, ale skutečné osudy světa se spřádají jinde - s menší pompézností a zcela bez vědomí světové veřejnosti.

Bilderberg zřejmě určitou roli hraje, ale bude to role spíše společenská. Bohatým a mocným dělá moc dobře čas od času se navzájem vidět a nechat se vidět. Očichávají se, navazují zde sociální kontakty, ze kterých mohou v mnoha případech později vzniknout velké obchody. Osobní kontakt je důležitý, žádný telefon ani videokonference jej nemůže nahradit.

Nicméně bych rád uvedl dvě pozorování.

(1) V pozvané skupině úplně chybí zástupci asijských kapitalistů. Chybí také boháči z arabského světa - ropní šejkové a jim podobní. Obě skupiny disponují prostředky, kterými by si mohly celý Bilderberg koupit, kdyby na to přišlo. To logicky znamená, že nemůže jít o globální vládu nad celým světem.

Rovněž chybí i několik veledůležitých jmen z Evropy a Ameriky. Např. americký miliardář židovského a maďarského původu Soros. Proč ho nepozvali?

Země bývalé Východní Evropy reprezentují pouze čtyři lidé, dva z Polska a dva z Ruska.

Pro nás, pro Čechy, není bez zajímavosti, že mezi pozvanými není také žádný z bohatých Čechů. Minulé schůzky se podle BL zúčastnili tři Češi: Žantovský, Pehe a Kovanda. Tentokrát nepozvali nikoho.

(2) Jak to, že se tato akce nestala terčem protestů antiglobalistů? Proč se konají masivní demonstrace a ničení majetků u příležitosti setkání ministrů či schůze Světové banky a proč mladí protestující zcela ignorují tak důležitou schůzku veleknězů globalizace? Vždyť Světová banka či ministři jsou jen výkonným orgánem, skutečné řízení spočívá v rukou mnoha účastníků schůzky Bilderberg. A to mě přivádí k další myšlence: Kdo vlastně stojí za organizací těchto tzv. antiglobalistů?

Zajímá-li vás, kdo se schůzky Bilderberg zúčastnil, zde je úplný seznam. Přebírám ho z anglických zdrojů a ponechávám i tituly a funkce v angličtině. Mnohdy je totiž nedokáži ani přeložit. První písmeno na začátku je země, odkud pozvaný přichází.

Stále intenzivněji se šíří zprávy o nepříčetnosti Georga Bushe.

Vydavatel Capitol Hill Blue http://capitolhillblue.com/ Doug Thompson napsal v ranních hodinách 4. června: "Haly západního křídla (Bílého domu) bzučí zprávami o nejistém chování a prudkých výkyvech nálad prezidenta Bushe, a jeho pomocný personál nedávno diskrétně vyjádřil vzrůstající obavy o duševní zdraví hlavy státu."

Takhle nějak začíná Thompsonova zpráva a pokračuje:

"Na schůzkách s nejvyššími představiteli země a svými poradci prezident jedním dechem cituje Bibli a míchá to s obscénními směšnými výbuchy nenávisti vůči médiím, demokratům a dalším, které označuje za 'nepřátele státu'."

"Připomíná mi to poslední dny prezidenta Nixona," říká dlouholetý konzultant republikánů s kontakty na Bílý dům. "Každý je pro něj nepřítelem. Každý po něm jde. Taková je tam teď nálada." Zjevně je to vzpomínka na dobu, kdy se opilý prezident Nixon, pronásledovaný aférou Watergate, po nocích toulal chodbami Bílého domu a Kissingerovi uklouzlo, že převzal kontrolu nad knoflíkem umožňujícím odpálení jaderných zbraní.

A když zmiňujeme knoflík jaderných zbraní, Thompson uvádí, že hovořil důvěrně s několika lidmi z personálu Bílého domu a byl opakovaně upozorňován na to, že Bush vše, co činí, zdůvodňuje 'Boží vůlí' a všechny své oponenty usazuje vulgárním rčením 'fuck over' (lze přeložit jako 'jdi do prdele', pozn. vydavatele).

Thompson cituje jednoho z poradců: "Není pochyb o tom, že jsme ve válce. Ale čemu už vůbec nerozumím, je, kdo je vlastně nepřítel. Vypadá to, že věnujeme více času a energie zničení Johna Kerryho než al-Káidy, a seznam našich nepřátel každým dnem a hodinou roste."

Kritika není možná. Prezident na ni reaguje zuřivě. "Takhle to ve skutečnosti proběhlo s odvoláním ředitele CIA Georga Teneta," říká Thompson v odvolání se na poradce:

"Tenet chtěl odejít už minulý rok, ale prezident se k němu otočil zády a odmítl ho poslouchat. Tenkrát byla vhodnější doba na změnu, než teď, uprostřed volební kampaně. Ve středu večer v průběhu schůzky Tenet s prezidentem nesouhlasil. Prezident ho uťal v půli slova a řekl: 'To stačí, Tenete. Nemohu tolerovat neloajálnost. Chci, abys rezignoval. A chci, aby to bylo okamžitě.'"

Thompson píše, že Tenetovi bylo dovoleno 'rezignovat dobrovolně'. Bush o jeho rezignaci informoval své šokované poradce ve čtvrtek ráno. Jeden z poradců poznamenal, že Bush skutečně popsal Tenetovu rezignaci jako 'Boží vůli'. Stejně tak bude zřejmě Boží vůle i to, že generální prokurátor John Ashcroft zůstává ve funkci a v nejuzším kruhu Bushova poradců, navzdory široké kritice ohledně jeho protiústavních zákonů a trvalým pokusům podkopávat základní lidská práva a svobody. Personál západního křídla (Bílého domu) nazývá Bushe a Ashcrofta "Blues Brothers", protože oba plní Boží poslání.

"Ashcroft a Bush jsou nerozlučná dvojice, protože je spojuje víra," říká jeden z poradců. "Oba věří, že jakákoliv akce je zdůvodnitelná vůlí Boží."

Věčně popudlivý a vznětlivý Bush shazuje a ponižuje své lidi a neostýchá se nazývat je před ostatními 'zajebanými zkurvysyny' nebo - vidí-li, že je někdo vůči němu kritický - označuje je za "nepatriotické" či "neamerické".

"Vládne tady pocit, že jsme v obležení. O tom není pochyb," cituje Thompson jednoho z poradců a pokračuje: "V této společnosti se můžete stát nepřítelem Spojených států a nemusíte ani mít na hlavě turban nebo hovořit farsi. Stačí, když projevíte nesouhlas s prezidentem."
