A Secret Conference Thought to Rule the World

SINCE its first meeting 50 years ago, the Bilderberg conference, a secretive gathering of global power brokers, has inspired layer upon layer of conspiracy theories, which it has done little to dispute. Over the years, the deeds laid at the conference's devious door have included the creation of the European Union, the invasion of Iraq and the bombing of Serbia - all to service its most cherished goal: the creation of a world government.

The conspiracy theories bubbled to the surface anew last week, after it was reported that a well-received speech by Senator John Edwards at the conference last month in Stresa, Italy, was one reason for his selection as John Kerry's vice-presidential running mate.

Is the Bilderberg confab now molding domestic American policy?

Roughly 130 delegates attend the invitation-only annual gatherings, named for the Dutch hotel where the first Bilderberg conference was held in May 1954, to debate issues surrounding the cold war.

The meetings are hardly a monument to transparency. The hotels involved are usually closed off to other guests.

Unlike the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, journalists are not invited to cover it - although a few attend as participants - and all delegates promise to keep quiet about what they hear and say.

"They do not have to sign anything, but they understand that they do not talk," said Maja Banck-Polderman, the organization's executive secretary. In a telephone interview, she said she was the only employee at the Bilderberg administrative office in Leiden, the Netherlands.

Secrecy understandings aside, prying details loose about Mr. Edwards's appearance was not difficult so long as the chattering chieftains were not identified.

Mr. Edwards, several said, joined Ralph Reed, the Republican strategist, in giving a presentation on the American election. After Mr. Reed spoke about how Mr. Kerry was vulnerable on "values," Mr. Edwards presented a characteristically positive case for Mr. Kerry's election, focusing on the insecurity of American workers that persists even when economic statistics turn north.

Two Democrats in the room said Mr. Edwards sparked a rule-breaking round of applause when he finished, though a nonpartisan witness did not recall such an ovation.

"He spoke with great passion, in a meeting that is usually rather dry," said the nonpartisan veteran attendee. "He was able to make it a cross between his stump speech and an intimate conversation in a small room."

The group's meetings, Ms. Banck-Polderman said, are financed by corporate sponsors in the host countries and are regularly attended by tycoons, politicians and diplomats in Europe and the United States, including Henry A. Kissinger, the former secretary of state, and Richard N. Perle, the former head of the Defense Policy Board. This year's list also included Richard C. Holbrooke, the former United States ambassador to the United Nations, and, of course, Senator Edwards.

The guest list and membership would more or less overlap with the "Wanted" posters of anti-globalization protesters. Indeed, one former participant, Will Hutton, a British journalist and economist, has been widely quoted calling the Bilderberg set the "high priests of globalization."

Former participants have generally played down the conspiracy theories, saying the secrecy is merely designed to foster a climate of open debate, allowing participants to speak their minds freely.

But critics of the Bilderberg conference argue that while it may not make formal decisions, it sets a consensus that spreads among business and political elites, molding the global agenda.

Some argue, for instance, that the first intimations of American determination to wage war in Iraq came from a Bilderberg gathering in 2002.

"What I call for is more openness in what they do," said Tony Gosling, a British researcher and former journalist who has followed the Bilderberg meetings and believes they are designed to unite opinion around major, global ideas.

"I don't think the participants should be sworn to secrecy," he said in a telephone interview from Bristol, England. "I think that a forum where so many rich and powerful people meet should be open to public scrutiny."

Whatever else, the selection of Mr. Edwards as Mr. Kerry's running mate seems to show that the Bilderberg delegates have an eye for a contender.

But Democrats please note: they do not always back the winner. This year's delegates list showed that Giulio Tremonti attended as Italy's minister of economy and finance: four weeks later, he resigned in a political dispute - perhaps not the best of omens for Senator Edwards.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Greece has asked NATO to put hundreds of crack troops on standby in case of a terrorist attack during the Olympics, but they will not be based on Greek soil, Public Order Minister George Voulgarakis said Thursday.

Voulgarakis, who is in overall charge of Olympic security, said the troops would be on alert in case of a "World War Three" type situation developing.

"They will be outside Greece, in some third country. Maybe Germany, maybe some other country ready to come in," Voulgarakis told Greece's Alpha television.

"Of course these are extreme measures and essentially we're talking about a case of World War Three."

The Greeks are sensitive about the presence of foreign troops in their country, which won independence after centuries of occupation by the Ottoman Turks.

There was outrage in Athens Thursday after the New York Times reported that some 400 U.S. troops would be sent -- under NATO command -- to the country during the August 13 to 29 games to protect American athletes and dignitaries.

Diplomats said Greece's request for NATO-led counter-terrorist troops to be on standby outside the country was separate from a possible bilateral deal with Washington under which American security officers may protect U.S. citizens on Greek soil.

22.07.2004 06:49 - Americké zbrojní firmy mohou dodávat zbraně do Iráku. Prezident George Bush podepsal zákon, kterým zařadil Irák mezi důvěryhodné vlády. Chce tím podpořit demokratický proces v zemi. Nejmenovaný americký úřední zdroj citovala agentura Reuters.


Jde o nejčerstvější krok, který má podpořit důvěryhodnost nové irácké vlády.

Memorandum adresované ministerstvu zahraničí, které Bush podepsal, formálně umožňuje Iráku přijímat materiál, služby a asistenci ze strany amerických výrobců zbraní, a to v rámci dvou zákonů, které tuto oblast definují.

Každá irácká žádost o prodej zbraní či asistenci bude posuzována jednotlivě, upřesnil zdroj. Bushův podpis ale otevřel před Bagdádem výhled na získání stejné pozice v dodávkách zbraní, kterou mají vlády, které Washington označuje za "spřátelené".

"Prezident je přesvědčen, že dodávky obranného charakteru do Iráku podpoří pokračování procesu demokratických reforem a posílí irácké demokratické instituce," cituje Reuters nejmenovaný americký vládní zdroj.

US Army chief suspect in 2001 anthrax mailings

Fort Detrick labs searched again for anthrax clues

FREDERICK, Md. — FBI agents yesterday combed laboratory suites at Fort Detrick — home to the Army's biological warfare defense program — and a source said they again were looking for evidence in the 2001 anthrax attacks.
The labs at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases have been closed since Friday, Fort Detrick spokesman Charles Dasey said.

A law-enforcement source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press the activity is related to the anthrax mailings that killed five persons and sickened 17 in autumn 2001.
FBI agents have visited Fort Detrick frequently since the unsolved attacks, amid speculation that the deadly spores or the person who sent them may be connected to the fort.
Mr. Dasey said he didn't know which labs were involved, what sort of research had been conducted there or how long they would be closed.
Debra Weierman, spokeswoman for the FBI's Washington field office, said the lab probe was part of "an ongoing criminal investigation." She said she could not discuss details of the activity.
Much of the speculation about a Fort Detrick connection has centered on Stephen J. Hatfill, a former government scientist and bioweapons specialist who once worked at the infectious disease institute at Fort Detrick. The FBI had labeled Mr. Hatfill a "person of interest" in the case.
Mr. Hatfill has denied any role in the attacks. He filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Washington contending the government invaded his privacy and ruined his reputation by leaking information to the press implicating him in the attacks. His lawsuit seeks to clear his name and recover unspecified monetary damages.
His attorney, Victor M. Glasberg, had no comment yesterday.
Agents have been revisiting sites and leads in the investigation, code-named "Amerithrax."
In May, agents interviewed another former Fort Detrick researcher and his co-workers about his whereabouts when the letters were mailed, he and his attorney said. The researcher, Ayaad Assaad, who now works for the federal Environmental Protection Agency, said the FBI assured him he is not a suspect in the attacks.

Attention Iraqi cell-phone users: Your calls soon will be forwarded to Big Brother.

A unit of Engineered Support Systems Inc. said Tuesday that it has landed a $31 million contract to help install a big listening post in and around Baghdad to help Iraqi police and U.S. intelligence agents monitor cell-phone traffic. The surveillance network will be able to track 360 cell-phone calls at once, said David R. Gust, president of Tamsco of Calverton, Md., a subsidiary of Cool Valley-based Engineered Support.

The project has taken on a sense of urgency as U.S. intelligence agencies work to foil the coordinated bombing attacks by Iraqi insurgents. In a region torn by war, cell phones are becoming a primary source of telecommunication for Iraqis because there is a dearth of reliable land-based fiber-optic cable and copper-wire systems.

Dubbed "Legal Intercept," the Pentagon-funded project calls for the installation of passive listening devices in Mosul, Basra, Baghdad International Airport and downtown Baghdad, Gust said.

"This network will be able to track and intercept local cell-phone calls by Iraqis," he added. "Our job is to install the hardware and provide the maintenance. Usually we're in the communications business. This (project) is the anti-communications business."

Izrael hodlá trestat popírače holocaustu všude na světě

Izraelský Knesset projednává návrh zákona, podle kterého by každý, kdo zpochybňuje holocaust, ať je kdekoliv na světě, byl dopraven do Izraele a trestán podle izraelských zákonů.

Návrh podal poslanec Aryeh Eldad a v současné době prošel prvním čtením. Původně byl namířen proti palestinskému předsedovi vlády Abu Mazenovi za jeho dvacet let starou dizertační práci, ve které dokládá, že za druhé světové války bylo zabit jen jeden milion židů. Později Izraelce napadlo, proč o nerozšířit na celý svět?

Podle návrhu zákona není nutné, aby příslušná země, ve které by se zločin popírání stal, měla nějaké smlouvy s Izraelem o vydávání zločinců, nebo vlastní zákon trestající popírače holocastu.

Co k tomu dodat? Oni už se skutečně vidí pány světa a nemohou se dočkat, až bude jedna globální vláda. Samozřejmě ta jejich.

Zpěvačka vyhozena za chválu Michaela Moora

V hotelovém kasínu Aladdin v Las Vegas řekla osmapadesátiletá roková zpěvačka Linda Ronstadtová do mikrofonu, že Michale Moore, autor filmu Fahrenheit 9/11, je velký americký patriot, který se snaží šířit pravdu.

Asi 4500 přítomných hostů se začalo bouřit, trhat plakáty a programy, vyhazovat do vzduchu nápoje a houfem odcházet ze sálu. Zpěvačka se chystala zpívat svou píseň Desperado, ale k tomu už nedošlo.

Scéně byl přítomen ředitel hotelu a kasína Bill Timmins, který se rozhodl, že Ronstadová musí pryč. Ihned. Ochranka ji okamžitě eskortovala před hotel a nedovolila jí dokonce ani vzít si své věci z hotelového pokoje.

"Dokud jsem tady šéfem já," řekl později Timmins, "ona tady vystupovat nebude."

What we are not told is that Al Qaeda is a creation of the CIA. and that Al Qaeda remains a US sponsored "intelligence asset."

"Useful Crisis"

The assumptions and rhetoric behind Homeland Security are nothing new. They echo an earlier statements by David Rockefeller to the United Nations Business Council in 1994:

"We are on the verge of global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order."

Similarly, in the words Zbigniew Brzezinski in his book, The Grand Chessboard:.

"…it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus [in America] on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstances of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat."

It is worth mentioning that Zbigniew Brzezinski, who was National Security Adviser to President Jimmy Carter was one of the key architects of the Islamic brigades, created by the CIA at the onslaught of the Soviet Afghan war (1979-1989). Israeli army warns of strike against Syria

As the conflict on the Israel-Lebanon border escalates, the Israeli military has issued a blunt warning that it may launch a direct attack against Syria.

The chief of the northern areas of the Israeli army, General Bini Gants has accused Syria and Iran of arming the Lebanese Hizb Allah movement, which he described as "terrorist".

Gants told Aljazeera television on Tuesday that the continuation of Hizb Allah's attacks would push Israel to launch "a painful and qualitative military operation" against Syria

1945: Born to a wealthy Shiite merchant family. His grandfather helped to negotiate Iraq's independence from Britain, and his father was a doctor and a MP.

1960s: Studies at medical school in Baghdad, where he first meets Saddam Hussein. Joins Baath party.

1963: According to the memoirs of a former Iraqi ambassador, Talib Shabib, Allawi was an assassin.

1971: Leaves Baghdad for London to continue his medical education. Trains to be a neurologist and obtains a master of science in medicine and a doctorate in medicine from London University. (Allawi has lived about half of his life in Britain and retains British citizenship.) Some claim he continued to serve the Baath party, and the Iraqi secret police, searching out enemies of the regime.

1975: Falls out of favour with the Baath party.

1978: Enters a relationship with the British security services. Word reaches Saddam's secret police. He is attacked while in his bed in Kingston-upon-Thames. Intruder hits him over the head with an axe, a second blow nearly severs his right leg, and a third plunges into his chest. The would-be assassins flee. Allawi spends a year in hospital recovering from his injuries.

1980s: Travels extensively in the Middle East, holding clandestine meetings with other exiled Iraqis, and cultivating links with rebel army officers still in Iraq.

1991: Forms the exile group Iraqi National Accord with the support of the CIA and British intelligence - MI6 - and becomes its leader. The organisation recruits disillusioned Baathist military officers who have defected.

1992: According to former CIA officers, the INA organises terrorist attacks in Iraq between 1992 and 1995, probably including the bombing of a school bus that killed schoolchildren.

1996: An INA coup attempt ends disastrously when Saddam's intelligence services penetrate the group's dissident operations inside Iraq. In June, 30 military officers linked to the INA are executed and another 100 arrested. Saddam takes revenge by seizing land that has been owned for centuries by Allawi's rich merchant family.

2002: Allawi channels the report from an Iraqi officer claiming that Iraq could deploy weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes to British Intelligence.

2003: After the fall of Saddam, Allawi returns to Iraq and is appointed to the Iraqi Governing Council. Holds the rotating presidency of the interim governing council during October of 2003.

May 28, 2004: Allawi is chosen by the council to become the interim prime minister of Iraq.

June 28: (Two days early) the US-led coalition hands over power to Allawi and the interim government.

Irácký premiér Ajád Aláví je mužem, který vládne pevnou rukou. O tom už se mohlo přesvědčit mnoho Iráčanů. Australský list Sydney Morning Herald ovšem přinesl zprávu, že Aláví je vyznavačem brutálního postupu: v jedné věznici prý pro výstrahu sám popravil šest zadržených

Podle svědků, které se reportérovi Sydney Morning Herald podařilo vypátrat a kteří vypovídali nezávisle na sobě, přijel Ajád Aláví na nečekanou návštěvu věznice Al-Amarijáh pár dní před 28. červnem, kdy se Američané vzdali vlády na Irákem.

Na místě nechal postavit před zeď sedm spoutaných mužů s páskami přes oči, z nichž poté šest vlastnoručně zastřelil, citoval list svědky. Aktu údajně přihlíželi američtí i iráčtí členové Alávího ochranky a bachaři spolu s nějakými 30 vězni.

Ajád Aláví popravu ospravedlnil tím, že všichni zabití měli na svých rukách krev mnoha nevinných lidí, a proto si podle něj nezasloužili nic jiného než smrt.

Premiérův radikální postup měl údajně posloužit policistům a pracovníkům věznic jako příklad rázného řešení nastálé krize. Zároveň tím prý chtěl naznačit, že zabití vězně nemusí být vždy špatné.

Ačkoli informace o popravě zní takřka hrůzostrašně, Sydney Morning Herald upozornil, že svědci vypovídali o Alávího činu s nadšením. Běžní Iráčané totiž většinou opovrhují teroristy, kteří mají na svědomí smrt nevinných lidí.

Kancelář Ajáda Alávího informace okamžitě popřela a australským novinářům sdělila, že premiér v Al-Amarijáh nikdy nebyl. Administrativa USA zprávy nepopřela ani nepotvrdila.

Naopak bývalý britský ministr zahraničí Robin Cook, který rezignoval, protože nesouhlasil s válkou v Iráku, už vyzval Červený kříž, aby svědectví o popravách prozkoumal. "Jsou to strašlivá obvinění, která žádají nezávislý vhled," pravil Cook.

Kdo je Ajád Aláví?
Britský nedělník The Sunday Herald, který zprávu převzal právě od australských novin, naznačil, že teprve ve světle podobných událostí Američané zjišťují, koho vlastně instalovali do čela demokratizace Iráku.

Ajád Aláví je podle mnohých přinejmenším kontroverzní postava. Někdejší agent CIA Vincent Cannistraro prozradil americkému časopisu New Yorker, že irácký premiér není žádný beránek.

"Jestli se mi ptáte, zda má Aláví na svých rukách krev, musím vám říct, že ano," řekl. Než totiž odešel do londýnského exilu, byl Aláví Saddámovým spolupracovníkem, který se měl podílet na vraždách členů Saddámovy strany Baas. V sedmdesátých letech se údajně jejich cesty rozešly kvůli penězům.

Poté, co Saddám poslal na Alávího do Londýna zabijáky, musel se současný premiér uzdravovat několik měsíců z útoku sekerou. Jakmile se dal dohromady, pomáhal CIA a MI6 osnovat atentát právě na Saddáma Husajna.
