    New close-up images of Pluto from NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft reveal a bewildering variety of surface features that have scientists reeling because of their range and complexity.

    “Pluto is showing us a diversity of landforms and complexity of processes that rival anything we’ve seen in the solar system,” said New Horizons Principal Investigator Alan Stern, of the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), Boulder, Colorado. “If an artist had painted this Pluto before our flyby, I probably would have called it over the top — but that’s what is actually there.”

    For a book literally full of typefaces and diagrams and gridded layouts, NASA's Graphics Standards Manual has sure gotten a lot of attention over the last couple weeks. Two guys want to revive and sell the long-lost manual for $79 a piece on Kickstarter, and in response (we assume), NASA has just released a PDF of the document for free.

    Jinak ode dneška začíná fáze intenzivního downlinku dat z palubních rekordérů New Horizons, která bude trvat cca rok.
    A 11. září proběhne další brief. Bude to cca týden po startu dwnloadu, takže se můžeme těšit na zajímavá data!
    V DSN teď budou mít napilno. Nemoh jsem si pomoct: foto s ovcemi je jedno z mých nejoblíbenějších... :D

    VIRGO: Eeeeeeeeeeh. Zjevne subjektivne, ale "Starliner" je jmeno pro luxusni letadlo s kozenejma sedadlama, sampanskym a prsatejma letuskama v minisuknich, ne pro bleeding edge kosmickou lod.
