MATT: South Park's member-berries are a metaphoric device which satirize the recent trend in pop culture to use nostalgia as a plot device and sales point. They effectively rip into the recent reboots of Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghost Busters as well as homages to 80s movies such as super 8, or Stranger Things. At the same time, the appeal to a golden age of America is satirized. The berries mention of a time before Isis, and when we felt safe mocks the appeal to an America that needs to be made great again.
"'Member Chewbacca again?" "I 'member!" "'Member feeling safe? And no ISIS? 'Member when marriage was only between a man and a woman? 'Member Reagan?" "Oh yeah, I 'member!"
