Spa Francorchamps is to undergo more changes over the winter. A new package, costing eighty million euros will see changes to the circuit itself and to the hospitality and viewing facilities.
It is sad to see the chalet overlooking Radaillon was demolished as the first part of the restructuring process, this will be replaced with a large new grandstand complete with corporate hospitality units. There will also be a similar structure opposite the old pits.
Spa Francorchamps will host the 2022 FIM Motorcycle Grand Prix and most of the on-circuit work will be completed to satisfy the requirements of the bikers with enhanced run-off and guardrail facilities at La Source, Raidillon, Blanchimont, Les Combes and Stavelot. These changes should also address the calls to make the daunting Eau Rouge/Raidillon complex safer by moving the barriers back and creating safer run off areas.
Work should be completed over the next few months and be completed in time for next year's opening meeting.
