Assange judge is 40-year “good friend” of minister who orchestrated his arrest
    https://declassifieduk.org/assange-judge-is-40-year-good-friend-of-minister-who-orchestrated-his-arrest/

Lord Chief Justice Ian Burnett, the judge that will soon decide Julian Assange’s fate, is a close personal friend of Sir Alan Duncan, who as foreign minister arranged Assange’s eviction from the Ecuadorian embassy.

The two have known each other since their student days at Oxford in the 1970s, when Duncan called Burnett “the Judge”. Burnett and his wife attended Duncan’s birthday dinner at a members-only London club in 2017, when Burnett was a judge at the court of appeal.

Now the most powerful judge in England and Wales, Burnett will soon rule on Assange’s extradition case. The founder of WikiLeaks faces life imprisonment in the US.

    ...

Duncan served as foreign minister for Europe and the Americas from 2016-19. He was the key official in the UK government campaign to force Assange from the embassy.

As minister, Duncan did not hide his opposition to Julian Assange, calling him a “miserable little worm” in parliament in March 2018.

In his diaries, Duncan refers to the “supposed human rights of Julian Assange”. He admits to arranging a Daily Mail hit piece on Assange that was published the day after the journalist’s arrest in April 2019.

Duncan watched UK police pulling the WikiLeaks publisher from the Ecuadorian embassy via a live-feed in the Operations Room at the top of the Foreign Office.

He later admitted he was “trying to keep the smirk off [his] face”, and hosted drinks at his parliamentary office for the team involved in the eviction.

Duncan then flew to Ecuador to meet President Lenín Moreno in order to “say thank you” for handing over Assange. Duncan reported he gave Moreno “a beautiful porcelain plate from the Buckingham Palace gift shop.”

    “Job done,” he added.

“A Lot of Mistakes”: The Guardian and Julian Assange
    https://www.mintpressnews.com/a-lot-of-mistakes-the-guardian-and-julian-assange/279088/

Excellent expose of how the Guardian desperately tried to get info that would nail Julian Assange.
On anniversary of the Manafort story, John McEvoy and Pablo Navarrete conducted 2 exclusive interviews & gained access to The Guardian correspondence. This Explosive new investigative piece by John McEvoy and Pablo Navarrete documents that The Guardian knew that the security company meant to be protecting Assange was actually spying on him. They didn’t publish the story. Instead, they requested transcripts of the conversations being spied on.

Julian Assange In His Own Words, edited by Karen Sharpe | OR BOOKS
    https://www.orbooks.com/catalog/julian-assange-in-his-own-words/

Julian Assange In His Own Words provides a highly accessible survey of Assange’s philosophy and politics, conveying his views on how governments, corporations, intelligence agencies and the media function. As well as addressing the significance of the vast trove of leaked documents published by WikiLeaks, Assange draws on a polymathic intelligence to range freely over quantum physics, Greek mythology, macroeconomics, modern literature, and empires old and new.

Drawing on his insights as the world’s most famous free speech activist Assange invites us to ask further questions about how power operates in a world increasingly dominated by a ubiquitous internet.

US/UK: “Drop the charges, stop the extradition and free Julian Assange,” says Amnesty head - Amnesty International
    https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/news-news/2021/10/us-uk-drop-the-charges-stop-the-extradition-and-free-julian-assange-says-amnesty-head/

"Ahead of an appeal hearing against the decision by a UK court not to extradite Julian Assange to the USA, Amnesty International’s Secretary General has called on US authorities to drop the charges against him and the UK authorities not to extradite him but release him immediately.

The call by Agnès Callamard follows an investigation by Yahoo News revealing that US security services considered kidnapping or killing Julian Assange when he was resident in the Ecuadorian embassy in London. These reports further weaken already unreliable US diplomatic assurances that Assange will not be placed in conditions that could amount to ill-treatment if extradited.

'Assurances by the US government that they would not put Julian Assange in a maximum security prison or subject him to abusive Special Administrative Measures were discredited by their admission that they reserved the right to reverse those guarantees. Now, reports that the CIA considered kidnapping or killing Assange have cast even more doubt on the reliability of US promises and further expose the political motivation behind this case,' said Amnesty Secretary General, Agnès Callamard."

TADEAS: Once again, The Guardian acts bad towards Assange, pretending it does good to him. The article portrays Stella as an intelligent woman blinded by love, taps into the old adage that Assange alienated co-workers "when they criticized his work ethic," and again accuses Assange of putting lives at risk. The article recalls the false rape case again and does not say both case and Swedish prosecution were entirely discredited by the UN and real journalists. And it even quotes a "journalist" like Ball and others from the Guardian several times, and heavens! Domscheit-Berg! And what about the charges against Assange? The entire defense of his work is up to the romantic bride, and therefore, influenceable lawyer. While journalists and other former WikiLeaks members who are not named would have jumped out of the "cult" because of Assange's personality. This article is pernicious. I wouldn't share it.

Stella Moris on her secret family with Julian Assange: ‘He’s unlike anyone I have ever met’ | Family | The Guardian
    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/oct/16/stella-moris-julian-assange-secret-family

Even though this interview with Assange's partner Stella Moris is in the Guardian, it is definitely worth your time. When Julian Assange was staying in the Ecuadorian embassy under assylum, he started a relationship, then a family with Stella Moris. Moris tells how they managed to keep it secret so long, what drew her to him, about how he is doing in prison '“He’s very unwell. He’s struggling a lot." and why deporting him to the US would be disastrous for democracy.

Excerpt: "They found they had much in common. Both were freedom of information champions and had experienced nomadic childhoods. Assange has said he lived in more than 30 Australian towns and attended 37 schools before settling down with his mother and half-brother in Melbourne. She was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and lived in Botswana, Lesotho, Sweden and Spain before going to university in the UK.
    ...
Before even meeting him, she says, she was convinced he was the victim of an elaborate sting. 'I had read all the documents and it was clear that this was a political case and that he was innocent. The Swedish authorities were behaving in a way that was inexplicable, refusing to question him. Then it came out that they were being advised by the Crown Prosecution Service not to question him in England..."

The Belmarsh Tribunal: Free Julian Assange
    https://act.progressive.international/belmarsh-tribunal/

For exposing the criminality of the War on Terror, the US and its allies have persecuted, imprisoned, and plotted to assassinate Julian Assange. Belmarsh Tribunal turns the tables in the extradition hearing against Julian Assange, a case that will shape the future of journalism for decades to come.

Organized by The Progressive International the tribunal will hold its first physical proceedings in London at the Convocation Hall, Church House, Westminster.

    WHEN: 3pm BST, 22 October

Srećko Horvat, cabinet member of the Progressive International and one of the founders of the Belmarsh Tribunal, said:

"After the revelations about the murderous CIA plans to kill a publisher and journalist on British soil, not only the current US government but also the UK government must be held responsible for still keeping Assange in prison. The Biden administration should drop the charges against Assange and the UK government should free him immediately and end the suffering and torture of a courageous man who has committed no crime. In a society in which telling the truth becomes a crime, we are all accomplices of crime as long as Assange is in prison."
