Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - On April 6, Sarajevo is marking 20 years since the beginning of the longest siege in modern history, during which Serb forces killed 11,541 of its citizens - more than 1,000 of them children - with grenades and snipers
Each one of 11.541 seats represents one individual, one life, one family member, friend, lover, colleague…They’re all forced to die a gruesome death. 11.541 lost dreams, hopes, smiles, their future taken by force. Many of the chairs are small, representing the hundreds of children killed.
What’s left for the survivors to do? We live, we remember, and we tell others. We tell the truth of what happened in this place. It’s a job for the survivors―for us. We’ll engrave it into our memory, and never forget.
