Just how dangerous is it to travel at 20% the speed of light?
Breakthrough Starshot has examined the impact of stray atoms, cosmic dust.
Just how dangerous is it to travel at 20% the speed of light? | Ars Technica
    http://arstechnica.com/science/2016/08/could-breakthrough-starshots-ships-survive-the-trip/

The space between here and the nearest star isn't completely empty. Earlier generations of stars have left a sparse collection of tiny dust particles,
and various processes have left individual atoms scattered through the interstellar space. These particles pose very distinct risks, and the team worked
    through each separately.

The main problem with running into an atom isn't the physical collision but rather the energy deposited in the spacecraft by the impact, which can cause
local heating that damages the craft in two ways. When high enough, the heating causes the material the craft is made of to evaporate into space. Below
that threshold, it can cause local melting, leading to a change in material properties as the area resolidifies.

    Globular clusters and halo assembly
    ATNF Daily Astronomy Picture
    http://www.atnf.csiro.au/ATNF-DailyImage/
Hierarchical accretion models for galaxy formation predict that the majority of stars in the halo of a spiral galaxy
should have formed within dwarf galaxies that were later accreted by the larger galaxy. In 2010, we used a rough chemical
tagging approach to identify stars in the Milky Way halo that had likely formed in globular clusters, using the light-element
abundance anomalies that are well-studied in Galactic globular clusters.

Fossilized rivers suggest warm, wet ancient Mars
    http://phys.org/news/2016-08-fossilized-rivers-ancient-mars.html
Extensive systems of fossilised riverbeds have been discovered on an ancient region of the Martian surface, supporting the idea
that the now cold and dry Red Planet had a warm and wet climate about 4 billion years ago, according to UCL-led research.
The study, published in Geology and funded by the Science & Technology Facilities Council and the UK Space Agency, identified over
17,000km of former river channels on a northern plain called Arabia Terra, providing further evidence of water once flowing on Mars.

Mně místo Star Wars odkojila maková panenka, ale v tomto ohledu jsou obě ságy stejně relevantní. :)

On už výraz "obyvatelnost" je všeobsažný. Jaké formy by to měly obývat? Primitivní organismy?
Křemíková inteligence? Jak pak definujeme, co je živé? Zatím se nám to všechno točí vesměs
kolem biologie. V obou zmíněných případech by hypoteticky ten Titan mohl klapnout. Ale biodiverzita
v pozemském smyslu? To zcela určitě ne. Je to těžké - ale nesmírně zajímavé.

Už to tu padlo víckrát: Potřebujeme víc přesnějších dat sledování co nejvíce exosystémů,

    http://phys.org/news/2016-08-astronomers-large-cavity-tycho-supernova.html
Chinese astronomers have detected a large cavity existing around Tycho's supernova, also know as SN 1572,
exhibiting stream-like structures. The findings, reported in a paper published Aug. 18 on arXiv.org,
show that the environments of the supernovae may be much more complicated than previously thought.

while factors such as the long-distance data transmission delay means that the rover will have a high autonomy.

The science goals include studying the Martian topography, soil, environment, atmosphere and water ice, as well
as the planet's internal structure and search for possible signs of life.

One of the most inflated giant planets discovered
    http://phys.org/news/2016-08-inflated-giant-planets.html
An international team of astronomers has detected a highly inflated giant planet orbiting a mildly evolved star. According to a research paper published
Aug. 16 on the arXiv pre-print server, the newly found exoplanet, designated KELT-12b, is one of the most inflated "hot Jupiters" known to date.

A giant exoworld that expands in size when its parent star is at the end of its life is called "inflated." This inflation process is very often seen in
the so-called "hot Jupiters"—gas giant planets similar in characteristics to the solar system's biggest planet, with orbital periods of less than 10 days.
They have high surface temperatures as they orbit their parent stars very closely. The newly discovered KELT-12b is another great example of an inflated
    "hot Jupiter."

KELT-12b was spotted by a team of researchers led by Daniel Stevens of the Ohio State University. For their observations, the astronomers employed the KELT-
North telescope at the Winer Observatory in Arizona. KELT-North is one of the two robotic telescopes in the Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope (KELT)
survey, whose main goal is to search for transiting exoplanets around bright stars.

Ancient air pockets changing the history of Earth’s oxygen -- ScienceDaily
    https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/08/160822174234.htm
Geologists are using new direct methods to measure the Earth's oxygenation. They identified, for the first time,
exactly how much oxygen was in Earth's atmosphere 813 million years ago -- 10.9 percent. This finding, they say,
demonstrates that oxygenation on Earth occurred 300 million years earlier than previously concluded from indirect
    measurements.
